My website displays corectly on Desktop, Laptop and Mobile - however there is a problem with the display on my iPad.

There is a very large gap between the banner and the first line of text on every page.

This was not the case on previous versions of X5.

Help please.

Malcolm, you are still using v17, assuming you are entitled to it (update protection) can you install v2019 and open the project (ALLOW WX5 to make a copy for use in v17).

Is this large gap also visible if you use an alternative browser on the ipad?

Is the browser on the ipad up to date?

What version of IOS is it running??

LARGE GAP problem

1.  I have downloaded Version 2019 ‘WebSite X5 Evo’, converted the website to Version 2019 and uploaded to the Internet, but this has not fixed the problem - i.e. there is still a large gap.

2.  I have tried alternative browsers on my iPad (Dolphin and Aloha) - but these make no difference.

3. My iPad Browser (Safari) is up to date.

4. My iPad runs IOS 9.3.5. -and can’t be updated to a newer operating system.

NEW problem

Having upgraded to Version 2019 the Rykneld Bowling Club file only opens direct from the 2019 program. It does not open from the Project Selection Panel - as shown below.

Malcolm, it appears you are trying to open the v2019 project from v17? When you installed v2019 this would have deleted v17, to reinstate v17 you must go to your profile and download v17 (if you re-installed v17 from an installer you already had on your PC this would have replace v2019, the version in download is different even though the version number and size is identical) This seems to be a feature that Incomedia is rather proud of.

I do not have any apple devices so am at a bit of a loss. I know there are some issues with older IOS devices but this was evident in v17 as well (and you have not mentioned this problem with your v17 project)

https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/203122

I have requested Incomedia's assistance in case this problem is v2019 specific, but in the meantime, can you create a new "dummy" site and see if the problem can be reproduced? It may simply be a need to delete the menu object, then delete the sidebar, save the project as an iwzip file (step 5 export project), import and then recreate sidebar and menu as required for various resolutions. In fact, if the sidebar is never used, does the site display correctly on older apple devices??

Sorry I can't offer better advice at this time (as you say - perfect on Android)

Thanks Esahc

The 'new problem' appear to have 'gone away' - so no longer an issue.

I will have a try at creating a 'dummy' site later and get back to you.

I am able to create a dummy site - however, I am not willing to upload it - because I only have the one website and I don't want to interfere with it.

Will wait to see what Incomedia come up with.

Regards,  Malcolm

Malcolm, does the problem occur on the new dummy site??

If you create a folder on your existing hosting (eg dummy) in the public_html folder where you load your website and then upload the dummy site to that folder you will be able to check on your apple devices (just go to www.yourwebsite/dummy).

Once you have checked you will know if it is a "feature" of WX5 v2019 or a problem with your existing site.

Hi Malcolm

As Esahc mentioned as well, I can confirm that the latest Grid CSS technology might not be supported by older browsers.

This, of course, can affect iOS devices more than Android ones, since Apple tends not to update their older browser as often as other browsers normally are.

In particular, Grid CSS support was introduced in Safari for iOS from Safari v10.3. This could definitely be the reason for this.

If this was the case though, it should have happened with v17 as well, and it seems to in fact be so, am I right?

I'm afraid not much can be done for this since these older versions I mentioned simply will not be able to correctly display the website properly

I apologize for not being able to help you further with this but let me know if I can provide further insight on this matter

Thank you for your understanding

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

What about including both, code for old and also for new Grid CSS (this by default) and generate suitable code after the user of websitex5 has choosen new or old CSS?
Bring in some "legacy features" for older hardware and older browsers and after a while (let's say e.g. 1-2 years) you can still remove them if they are too old then.

Kind Regards
Ewald Bönisch

Hi Esach, Stefano, Ewald

Thanks all. I am not well versed in dummies / CSS Technology - and don't want to get out of my depth. So will leave everything 'as is' and live with the problem. Many thanks Malcolm
