Hello Derek,

The Google search results issue would through time resolve itself as the old pages would disappear from Google's index.

However, you can accelerate the process significantly by requesting manual removal of outdated links:

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en

This is well worth doing as not only do 404 errors not look good they will also hurt your Google ranking in the short term.

You have some misplaced code in the HEAD section of the following page:

http://www.upvcwindowdoorrepairs.co.uk/cat-flap-fitter.dewsbury-mirfield-wakefield-leeds-heckmondwike-liversedge-huddersfield-batley.html

Look for the following code/hyperlink in the properties of that page in WebSite X5, and delete it... then reupload your WebSite X5 project to the server:

<a href="http://www.upvcwindowdoorrepairs.co.uk/" title="Cat flap fitter, "target="_blank">Cat flap fitter, </a><br> we can fit your cat flap our ours we can fit them in, Upvc Wood Aluminium windows and Doors ,and also into patio Doors, , etc, etc, ,We cover most areas, Dewsbury Batley, Heckmondwike, Mirfield, Leeds, Bradford,Wakefield, liversedge, Cleckheaton, Huddersfield, West yorkshire Call 07540 960 965, www.upvcwindowdoorrepairs.co.uk

After you've done that you should then resubmit your sitemap to Google using the Google Search Console:

https://search.google.com/search-console/about

This will refresh Google's understanding of your revised site and iron out any remaining anomalies in the search index.

Kind regards,

Paul

No, on the contrary, duplicated content/pages are penalised heavily by Google.

Without question the best solution would be to get rid of every last trace of your old site (on the server), request deletion of old pages from Google's index, then resubmit your new sitemap which will prompt the Googlebot to recrawl.

The whole process can happen very quickly, often within a day or two.
