How to install X5Pro 2019.1 on a drive other than "C"  en

Have just updated today to the latest update..    I prefer not to run applications from C drive so I am look =ing for a way to install on a drive other than my smaller SSD "C" and preferably on my NAS drive.. but I do have local drives E: and F:  The network is for my personal use and is not shared with anyone else.  That is I am the only user..

I really want to have all my projects and objects used stored by default on my P: drive on the networked NAS.  Appreciate comments..

it's not possible to install other than default path frown

But you can move the installation folder to where you want and create the shortcut yourself.

It IS possible to install on another drive.

I also have a SSD and some programs I install on the SSD and other I install on my HDD.

The v. 2019 I have installed on my HDD.

You specify it upon installation. No need to move anything.

Thanks John S.  I have just tried reinstalling sucessfulley but back on C:..  I did not see any option to specify.. I recall the app install showed in a flash where it was installing [ in C ] but so quick I did not see anywhere to select a specify option..

How do you get to that?

Hello Peter

Just after the language selection there is a button preferences.

Click on this and you can choose the installation folder.

Just installed the ver. 14 - it was the same for the v. 2019.

Hope this is what you asked for.

Kind regards

John

Thanks John, found that preferences option button, selected that, and then only option was if I want to add a desktop shortcut..  See image attached..  Does your version have other options?

@John ne sei sicuro ?

@John are you sure ?

From version 17 Website is installed ALWAYS and ONLY in C:\Program Files\WebSite X5 - Professional or C:\Program Files\WebSite X5 - Evolution

and there is NO option to choose a different directory

It's not possible to install other than default path.

@Claudio

Yes-I am sure.

Just installing v. 17.

This is what is shown under the installation under preferences. I have chosen the English language so you can see the text.

I also checked the program files folders ( programs and programs(x86) and there is only my version 12 that I installed on the C-drive.

After installation I have this :

I have made a folder "projekter" where I have my projects.

This way I have the program and the projescts on another drive than the C-drive.

This is also the way I think it should be. If you have a SSD harddisk you probably won't have it filled with programs. Therefore it is essential that X5 can be installed elsewhere than the C-drive.

John, thanks for that detailled explanation and the image clearly shows you are right, at least with Ver 17.. but my Ver 2019 does NOT have that "browse" button..  Maybe Claudio maybe right and that it has been removed as an option..  Pity..  and as you say, uers may well want with SSD not to clutter up C drive with apps..  Thats what I am trying to avoid..  Thanks

Hello peter

The option shown was ALSO when I installed the 2019 - the 2019 installation is NOT on my C-drive.

I don't want to make an uninstall and a new install before it should be neccessary. I hope someone else is able to verify that it is correct what I tell about installation.

I can't guess why you don't have this option upon installation.

Or - maybe I have a magic computer that makes it possible for only me :-)

@John ...surprised

I did another test on another pc and even there does not ask me where I want to install ; obviously even that pc has two partitions.

Really very strange.

We are waiting for the STAFF that will clear the mystery... cool

@Claudio

You are not asked for the path.

You have to click on "Preferences" to see the option for installation path.

But - I agree - let's wait for INCOMEDIA to clear this up.

ok, I tried installation on a clean Netbook.

1. I started Installation of current V2019, fresh download from my profile. I was offered to choose a destination folder. I quit installation.

2. I started installation of latest V17, also got the possibilty to install in different folder which I did.

3. I tried installing V2019 again. I did NOT get the option to choose a folder! Instead the V17 from step 2 is overwritten.

Is this a bug or a feature? For me it's a bug!

Hi there!

I confirm that during a fresh new installation it is possible to change the installation path, still, if the program is already present on the PC, the default installation path is automatically set.

Please let me know if I can be of further help. Kind regards.
