Hi,
Product default weight is in what units (kg, g or pounds)?
For example, if my product has a weight of 1 kg (one kilogram) - I must enter 1000 (grams) or 1 (if units are kilograms)?

It does not matter, set it as you like.
It is needed if you want to handle shipping costs when weight is over a certain point.
So if you have set this in kilo in the shopping card (step1 Tab order management) shipping type list tab Cost.
Then use the same value for the shopping items. Just use the country standard and you will be fine.
