Download button in 'new window' link not working

When a link is set to open an external pdf file in a new window, the download button in the menu bar of the new window does not work (the rotate and print buttons work as expected).
The download button in the menu bar does work correctly if the link is set to open in the same window, as a showbox or as a popup window.
