Hi
I have added a Gallery widget to a page with 9 picures and added the comments to suit them. Afterwards I saw the pictures was too big and I compressed them and renamed them and replaced the pictures in the Gallery Widged.
I was still not happy so I compressed the pictures again with an On-line optimiser and put them back into the gallery. Every time I put them back the gallery "Exports" all the original files (Uncompressed etc) even if I delete them from the export folder, Website just adds them back in. How do I stop this ?
Many thanx

Hello Christo,
Variations of this phenomenon have been occurring in WebSite X5 for many years due to the associations which the software creates with files attached to various Objects.
One of the best ways to deal with this is to completely delete the troublesome Gallery Object, then create a completely new Gallery Object in WebSite X5, but when adding the images this time add only the compressed images.
Hold down the CTRL key then enter the Preview mode within WebSite X5, which will refresh the files ready for export to the server. Then export your project to the server in Step 5 as normal.
Check if the problem is now resolved.
Kind regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,
I have replaced the widget before I placed this discussion. I have now also recreated the page from new but the problem remains. And yes, I have only added the compressed images and removed the original (Large) images from the library where I kept them and moved them to a completely new folder. I can only guess that Website X5 keeps copies of these images somewhere in the program and them copies them back when I export the project.

Did you do a CTRL-Preview after deleting the old Gallery Object?

I now deleted the whole page and exported the website without that page. All those .PNG files have been re created in the gallery folder.
This is not good :(

Hi Paul, Yes to your question. I use Preview a lot as I need to see that my changes is applied.
Did you specifically hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard whilst entering the Preview in WebSite X5 though? This has a special function within the software. It flushes and rebuilds the collection of files which will be sent to the server.
Please see this thread for example, which describes some other steps to take:

Steps followed as per your post:
"
WebSite X5 uses an internal 'library' to keep track of all files associated with a particular project. So the key to success is to persuade WebSite X5 that the files you no longer wish to upload are no longer part of your project, and should be disassociated from the project library.
To this end there are a few things you need to do to ensure that WebSite X5 'forgets' that the files ever existed.
At this point you can now go ahead and upload to your web server, to confirm that the process has worked correctly. Be sure and delete any old files from the server first, of course.
Kind regards,
Paul"
Sorry, it does not help. I will have to rebuild the website now in a new folder from scratch ?

I am a bit frustrated now. I tried uploading the .IWZIP file but saw the file limit is 1 MB. Any idea what I can do now?

You could use WeTransfer?
https://wetransfer.com/

It requires your email address which I dont have. I can also share it with you on my Dropbox folder if you dont mind ?
Christo
It's not necessary to know the receiver's email address when using WeTransfer: click the 'options' icon (three dots in a circle) then choose the option to 'send as link' - once the link has been generated you can set this post as 'Private' (option under the gear icon in your initial post in this thread) then copy and paste the link here for Incomedia.
Otherwise, if you are instead requesting my own personal help then you can use the secure contact form on my website:
Contact Paul M.
Large IWZIP files can be attached to the contact form and sent securely. Or you can supply a WeTransfer link privately via the form also, if you prefer.
Unfortunately other methods will expose your project file in the public domain, and anyone could download it.

I have send you a message on your form.

Hi Paul,
I have downloaded your file from "We transfer" and reloaded the website to the hosting server. Everything looks to be working correctly. Many thanx.

You're welcome, Christo... that's good news!
Thanks for letting us know... all the best!
