Is there any way to specify an existing image already in a project gallery to be used in a new gallery? I have many galleries in my project, and I want to use a few of those same gallery images in a new gallery in the same project. Seems to me it reduce bloat and the need to relocate the original image files. I know I can just create a complete new gallery, and will fall back to that if I there is no easy solution.

That depends - if you mean the X5-standard-gallery then you need to specify the same images and then they will be uploaded again and ....
If you use another gallery like ( example ) the wow slider, then you can use the same images once they are uploaded.
All sliders where URL's can be specified can reuse the images once uploaded.
You can see a wow slider used on this page : http://bramminginfo.dk/
I think the KenBurns effect is cool.

I don't really want to use a slider in this situation. I will keep that slider option in mind for other times.

I have a number of websites where I use the galleries more than once. I simply get the primary gallery as I want it and then right click and copy the object and paste it on the page I want it, I then cull the gallery as required or reconfigure as I wish. Yes it does lead to duplication, but it is so quick that I find a workaround unnecessary. On one site I update every week, so once a year or so I delete the whole site from the host and reload to remove the many unused images that have accumulated.
I think it would be good if the gallery could use images that was specified with a URL.
This way it would be possible to create a gallery folder ( manually ) and then use images from there. Then it would be possible to copy the object between pages without the images being redundant.
And the standard-gallery could need some enhancements. If you have many images in a gallery it is troublesome to insert a new at a wanted place. An easier way of "replacement" - drag-and-drop would be fine.
