Uploading Website never finishes  en

Author: Melissa K.

Hey everyone,

I have a bit of a conundrum here and I'm hoping someone can help figure this out. So I created a website, went to upload the website with an FTP connection via the program, got connected, and had the files all uploading. They take a while but eventually it reaches 100%, and then it says it's just saving the files and finishing up, and then it stays like that, and it just never reaches the final page.

The site uploads fine when I go to check the live version, but then I can never choose to upload just the stuff I edited, I have to reupload everything because I never get the full upload confirmation so the program is stuck thinking it's incomplete.

Hello.
1) Try uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Before doing this, be sure to save project copies of the site in a safe place.
2) Try temporarily disabling the antivirus and firewall.
3) Do not use VPN.
4) Try to connect to the Internet directly and not through a router and so on.
5) Try to update NET.Framework.

What is the size of the site?In megabytes.

Hi Aleksej,

One thing I forgot to mention - this doesn't happen with another website, so I don't think it's option 1 or 2. I don't use a VPN nor a router. And I believe I already have the latest Framework installed.

This site according to the program is 1.39GB (1.98GB project size), but that is mostly due to store files that people can purchase. In mb: 1390mb website size / 1980mb project size.

Melissa, in case there is an issue with the project you could go to step 5 export project and create an iwzip (you should do this often anyway), then re-open WX5 and select import and import this new iwzip. This will NOT overwrite the existing project. In the new project, see if upload to internet completes properly and if so, use the new project from that time forward.

Melissa, this issue needs to be resolved, but in the interim you could resort to the old fashioned way.

Step 5, export to a folder.

Use FileZilla (or similar)

Upload new and changed from the folder.

After the 1st time it will be faster than wx5. Be aware that using this technique wx5 will not automatically create (an unreliable) backup.

Hello Melissa

If you've noticed this happening on a single website, can you try uploading a new project into a subfolder of the same webspace as the website giving you trouble?

It is possible that the software cannot end the final part of its work due to some kind of issue with the server specifically. This is plausible since apparently it is currently happening only for one of your websites and not all.

Are these two websites hosted on different providers?

Please verify this and keep me posted here with the result

Thank you

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

I'm not too sure what you mean...do you mean that you want me to create a new project from scratch, and then in the upload section, list the site as the other one and insert it into a directory within the site?

And yes, they are different hosts: the site that has the issue is through Yahoo/ Aabaco.

Hello Melissa

Yes exactly

That could help in understanding if the hosting specifically has something to do with it or perhaps it is just the project that is encountering some kind of error during the upload

Try this out and let me know the result

Thank you
Stefano

Hi Stefano,

It seems the problem might be server based, it's encountering the same problem when uploading a test/dummy site to a subfolder in the same site.

Do you have any suggestions? Because the thing is that while Filezilla works, I need to reupload everything every single time, and as the website has gotten quite large, it takes upwards of 2 hours for me to upload everything.

Two things though, I always get the message before I upload that the certificate isn't trusted (which according to yahoo is a thing that happens to everyone and that I just need to proceed anyway), and that the folders don't match (which I've seen people here talk about but that byapssing shouldn't cause any issues). While I don't believe either of those things have anything to do with the problem, I figure that providing as much info as I can might help resolve this.

Melissa, are you saying that Filezilla also never finishes?

Whilst Filezilla is not as convenient as FTP in WX5, is is usually faster. When you make a minor change, select all files and upload, does selecting only new and changed in filezilla work?

Certificate is not trusted is bad, if yahoo think this is acceptable I would change hosting. One way to see this message is if the time/date on the server or your PC is incorrect, I cannot believe either could be wrong, but you could check your server by going to the control panel and viewing stats (eg awstats has time and date on top of report).

Esahc,

Sorry for the confusion - Filezilla works fine, but the thing is that when I make a minor change, I need to re-export everything in wx5, so that means all of the files have new timestamps, ergo I need to re-upload everything, hence the taking a lot of time. If there was some way to just export the changed files, I wouldn't have a problem using Filezilla. I just wanted to use the ftp in the program because it has the option of just uploading the changed files.

Regarding the certificate, the how-to from yahoo mentions it as not being a security issue: https://help.smallbusiness.yahoo.net/s/article/SLN20431

Plus my client has been using yahoo for a while and doesn't want to change for the time being.

I essentially just want to be able to upload my client's site without the 2 hour wait time if possible. Whether that's through wx5 or through filezilla, I'm not too picky, I'd just rather not have to reupload all of the files.

Melissa, this should not be the case. When I export to disk, only the pages that need updating finish up with a new date/time.

Check for yourself. You already have a folder with the exported site, view it in Windows Explorer and arrange by date.

Now enter WX5 and make one single change on one page and export to disk.

Look in Win Explorer again, you should see that only that page has a new date and time. Yes?

However, if you do a ctrl+preview this will update EVERY page and of course if you modify header and/or footer this will similarly require every page to update.

Please let us know if Filezilla now works correctly?

Hmm, I'm not too sure, because here is a list of my files as I have them:

The ones at the top are the pages, but the folders all have a different date, even though the content has been updated.

As for the preview, does it only update all if I press control, or does it update all of the files just to preview any page?

Melissa, preview only updates the page or pages affected by the change. CTRL+preview forces every page to update. Files inside folders are treated the same way although folder dates will generally not change. These rules also apply when using FTP inside WX5.

When I am using filezilla, I select one file from the source directory and then ctrl+a to select all

I then right click on any of the selected files and select upload

When the upload starts a window pops up and I select overwrite if source is newer and apply to current queue only.
