Gradient overlay (Tint) on a picture

Hi
I have placed a large image (1903x856) on my home page I would like a gradient overlay or may be known as a tint, to give the picture a darker top, can anyone tell me if this is possible and if so the best way to achieve it.

Peter, one solution would be to place the simple separater on the page, set the depth as required then go to row formats and set the image and then select enable color transition.
If you don't want it to pulse, turn off transition, return to step 4 select the simple separator, select style and select gradient and decide how opaque it should be.
If this achieved what you require you could replace the simple separator with perhaps a text object and place text, etc over the image
