Template Issue?  en

Author: Graham O.

Hi guys

I built a website for my camera club and it has been ok other than one issue.  I have several pages/tabs and one of them has got some borders although the rest of the site is fine.

This is the one that has the borders, the others are fine

I've tried looking at the page and template settings but am unable to fix it.  Can you give me a steer please?

Regards

Graham

I think you set some borders in the cell style.

use the style object on for the objects to remove the borders.

Thanks for the prompt reply Andre.  Seems obvious now although I did suspect borders, but did not spot the enable check box!  Senior moment.

When I corrected my error, the preview did not change though.  I had to repeat a few times then the preview was good.

Many thanks for your prompt reply.  I'm always recommending you to people who want to make a website.

Please close this ticket.

Regards

Graham

Seems I spoke too soon!  When I did what you suggested, initially the preview did not show the changes to remove the cell borders.  After some fiddling the preview then looked perfect - which was when I said it was sorted out.

I could not view the site using the built-in browser - it would not connect/open it.  So I went on line and the changes I had made were not visible and the site looked the same as it did before the corrections.  I know that there can be a delay before the website changes, but I've waited, cleared the cashe and and restarted my computer and used a different browser, all to no avail.

Please tell me this is not my fault and it is down to something in the depths of the web.

Graham, inside WX5 click CTRL+preview button.

If that resolves the problem, upload the website as normal, but select all files (not new and changed)

When online, CTRL+F5 should clear the browser cache.

(you may wish to temporarily unmarking the correct answer - you can again mark it correct when your problems are over :-)

That did not work Esah.

I've just lost my post after trying to unmark the answer Andre gave me but I can't see how to do it.  I'll try again after I post this.  Don't want to loose this one too!

So I made a change to the text colour of the drop-down menu in the Member's Area of the site, uploaded as normal (changed files only) and that showed on preview and again on the live website after I uploaded.

I found in object style>text the margins setting and set them to zero too.  No difference.

I'm thinking it has to be page related but just can't fathom what is wrong.  I might duplicate this page with a new one to see if that cures it.  Prefer to be able to find the right setting to change though.

Success!!  Option to unmark not visible while a post is open.

I've made limited progress - at a cost.

I've zeroed the margins in the page creation view of the page in question and some of the borders have gone in preview.  The text format has also changed and in preview the page looks wider.  Screenshot attached.  Still no change on the live website though.

If this does not affect the live site format, on to the page header.......

Now looking in template settings>field and button style>page title/page path with no luck.

A bit of progress.  The live site has now updated and some borders have gone, but as I showed with the attached screenshot, so the page formatting is different to the rest of the site.

Just the page title to sort now and then the page format.

You set it probably at extra wide, set of extend, thiis will make the page normal again.

You can use the right mouse button on an object from another page that has a normal view, then copy the object style.

Past this to the site you have proble with. That should solve it in my opinion, else let me know.

Thanks Andre.  I've been trying this already without success.

The page that is displayng correctly has the content>fit content to cell width icon set to wide and when I try setting this to cell width on the affected page the preview shows no difference.

In the affecred page>page creation> using the extend icon screws up the formatting, but hides the border for the text part of the page.  So reducing the text to the cell with is leaving a border.  Maybe the cell should be wider?  But that is a universal template setting surely.

Check in the style the outer and inner margins, compare them to the correct page.

dio this also for the background in the style object.

do this also for the text TAB, compare these to correct page.

check also in step3 properties button, and check graphics settings, compare that also to correct page.

If you can't figure it out you are welcome to send me the project i will take a look for you, if it's not too big you can mail it, my mail is in my avatar

That's not going to work Andre as it is 52mb zipped.  IIRC Firefox has the ability to send large files so I'll check that out.

There is one difference with the BG colours.  Good page is trasparent, bad page is black.  I've tried switching these around but it made no difference.

I'll try your uploader.

Thx Graham,
Got it working now, i can send you the file or i can tell you step by step the corrections, i think i do the last option this way you will know where to check if something like this happens again.....

I will create a few scrnshots in here....

part 1:

in step3 use properties button

Then select graphic TAB and use pulldown page contents, there set color to transparant.unable tag for eneble custom settings then save.

part 2

in step4 remove extended,

then goto style button;

set background color to transparant.

Now select Text TAB, use pulldown -> description text. change outer and inner margin to 5

That should be it,

small tip, remove not needed empty rows, this makes x5 faster and gives less error's

do this also for page committee

Just to confirm, I followed your very clear steps and all good now.

My issue was/is that I don't understand how the areas that you used work.  I'd never had got the solution myself.
