Is Website X5 tweaking file sizes for js and css in relation to Core Web Vitals  en

Website X5 seems to be doing a very good job in relation to the Google Core Web Vitals. I did have a problem with CLS, and that was related to the footer background. Issue is over. My scores seem to come in very good in Lighthouse, after you ask it a few times. Because it has hiccups. In the graphic I attached, my performance showed a score of 63. Wait a few seconds, run it again, it is at 87. Guess server connections really play into a valid score, and they fluctuate all day long.

The biggest drag to the performace score keeping me out of the green is Eliminate Render-Blocking resources. Seems the CSS and JS files are large, and Google thinks they aren't being used. Well, they will be used. They might not be needed the second someone lands on your page, but they will be used as they start getting into the site.

I hope the engineers at Incomedia can explore the Core Web Vitals thing a little more deeply since it becomes a major ranking signal this May. See what can be done to make some of the CSS and JS files a tad smaller or faster. See what you can do to make that screen reader hidden object linkable to appease Lighthouse. (a#imGoToCont Says it is not a crawable link) Look into the label thing for the search field. (input#imHeader_imObjectSearch_08_field Seems to not like the label assigned.)

Whatever Website X5 can do to improve our scores more and make all those Wordpress cry babies fall behind, let's do it. Spend some time looking into how to be at the top of Core Web Vitals.

Thanks,

Hello John

In order to optimize as much as possible these files, the dedicated minification was introduced in one of the most recent versions of the software. However, since many files are included by design, it is surely possible that Google's test might warn you about this

That being said, I dare to say that the amount of files generated is absolutely within acceptable parameters due to their extremely limited size and will not prove penalizing in their use.

That being said, the code is further improved at every update, so we'll keep the situation under check to see if we can improve all that can be improved in the future

Thank you for your positive feedback!

Stefano

Thank you, Stefano and Aleksej. Overall, I guess the best way to have great page speed is small pages with minimal links and pictures. It is a game with Google most of the time. They rank pages, not entire sites. Yet all the SEO firms and rookies focus on whole sites. And you hear about site penalties, not necessarily page penalties. So what is the real truth with Google? Will we ever know....

CLS is Frustrating

As I am trying to clear up my CLS Issue on every page, please see the Attached lighthouse report photo which shows 2 Text boxes is causing 100% of the CLS on the page.

I have seen this same issue on Lighthouse reports on many other pages on my website.

Why would a Simple Text Cell be the cause of my terrible CLS on most of my pages? What is the problem here?

Is there something I am doing wrong, or is it an inherrent defect in the X5 Pro code.

Why should something so simple as a Text Cell cause this problem?

I have been spending days on this issue with no positive solution.

Thank you to all that reply, Giulio

Giulio,

I have run into this also. I try tricking the program (Website X5 Pro), sometimes I get a good result, most of the time, not. I add extra rows, retype my data, not just copying and pasting it in a new cell, then I erase old cell content and get rid of the extra rows. Sometimes it works, but not always. And I think it may have something to do with the responsive order. I have not yet tried creating the exact same page fresh, then erase the old page, then rename the new to match what the old was to keep from creating other problems. That might work. Because I see this first or second text block on the page thing coming up with high CLS numbers too.

Also if you embed a graphic in a text block, especially with text above and below it, that seems to create a CLS issue. So I started breaking apart my cells that have embedded images in a text block. Nice that the cell padding and positioning can be manipulated and the responsive order, so easy enough to keep the picture close to the text you want it to be close too.

And I had a CLS issue for months. Through talk back and forth in this forum and with someone who analyzed my site, seems that the footer background was creating the CLS problem on every page. I tried making it the same size as the footer, the same color, nothing was working. So finally I set the pixel height of the footer background to ZERO, meaning, no background. That cleared up the CLS problem overnight. Of course Lighthouse and Page Speed insights take a full 28 days to report it as gone.

So I would think what you could try, create a fresh page of the page you have a problem with. Be very careful about just copying cell content and repasting it to another page. All the parameters copy too, and you will be bringing the problem over. Best to copy the text, paste it into Notepad. Recopy it in Notepad, and then start a new text cell. Then take your old page, mark it as under construction so it no longer publishes, add -OLD or anything to the page name to rename it, rename your new page to what the page name is supposed to be, make sure it is positioned in your tree in the same place, upload it, and see if you tricked the CLS out of it. It is worth a try.
