Cannot Import websitex5 projects into X5 Evo 2021.5.2 from previous versions
Author: Chris F.Hi guys,
I find that I cannot Import my WebsiteX5 projects into X5 Evo 2021.5.2 from previous versions or backups.
My website is: www.sigwa.info
I have just had my original PC cloned to a much bigger one as the previous one was faulty. Everything else is working and has been tested. Windows permissions have been set to enable my access as a user, but it is my own PC anyway.
Still though, I cannot access my Website X5 files however, and this is causing me great distress. The problem is as follows:
The Windows File Browser will show all the folders and files, but the Open Project / Import... button does not 'see' the files (which are .iwzip files) in order to open them.
As I cannot open them using the WebsiteX5 / Import method, I have attempted to open them using the Windows browser and 'Open With...' method (selecting the WebsiteX5 Evo application, but only receive an 'Access is Denied message'.
I have a couple of other projects (under development on the same PC), but not on the internet (intentionally) which have the same issue.
Any assistance will be greatefully appreciated.
Kind regards,
Chris. F.
Chris, can you copy the iwzip to the websitex5-evo folder in your documents folder. If so it should then import.
If it fails, try starting wx5 as administrator.

Hi guys,
By way of thanks, at least I have been able to use the method above to recover some previous versions of two of my sites, but the clone of my old PC to the new PC was perfomed after I had updated the www.sigwa.info site, but before I could back it up.
Is the file lost?
The most up-to-date version of the website is available on the Internet. Is there a way to download this, back into my WebSite X5 application on the new PC?
This would be preferable to having to manually (labouriously) re-create each page!
In looking for the most recent versions in the Date Modified column of Windows Explorer, I can see a file in each one of my two missing web page backups with the Website X5 Evo logo named project.iwprj2 What is this file and is it in any way linked to my missing projects?
Thanks in advance.

Chris, can you copy the whole project folder from the old hd to the new hd?
Assuming you put it in the correct place (where your other projects are now they have been imported), the project should be visible and open normally.
To answer your questions, no you cannot regenerate your project from the published site (except by copy and paste into a new or recovered project) and yes, iwprj2 files are the main component of your project, but there are many other required files in a project folder. Without them your project will not open.

Hmm, Thanks for the thought, and I did try that, but I come up against the same problem. There is couple of graphics attached to this which show what (I think) is stopping the import.
The first screen capture is of the place where it resided in my manual backup. at the bottom of the file list, is a file named: project.iwprj2
The second, smaller graphic shows the import selector dialog box, but the only choice there is for *.iwzip files.
Any further suggestions please? I have had several days free time to do this, but nothing is working and I am getting behind in web site tasks.
Oh, by the way, I did try to phone on the support line, but I'm guessing that it is not operational on weekends?
Thanks in advance.
Chris. F.
Which path do you have when you start the program under "Settings"? There is the path where your projects should be. If not or it has changed on the new PC, you have to set it again. Then you will see your projects in the project preview again.
Chris, on the face of it you need to copy the folder SignallingWA to your current working directory (probably documents/incomedia/website x5-Evo) and all things being equal next time you run WX5 your project will be visible. Select and open it and it should upgrade as required assuming all the files and folders are there.
For iwzip files that is correct, if you import you will only see iwzip files.
For future reference create iwzip files of your projects often, rename them so you can keep multiple versions.
Please keep us updated?

Hi Esahc ..,
Thanks for the advice, I have found the file (from prior to the PC changes), but I now have the following issue when I attempt to open the file.
Which version was it created in Chris? Are you sure you have copied the most recent version and not a very old one?
( When I can't remember I right click on the online page and select view source)

Hi Esahc ..,
Thank you for all the advice. I have now resolved the issue. In the end it was not a WebSite X5 issue at all.
It was in the way the PC was cloned and I just had to learn where the technician had put everything.
I have now been able to successfully update, reconfigure and upload without any further issues.
This topic can be closed now.
Thank you again.
Kind Regards,
