Hamburger Menu Properties Cannot Be Changed  en

Author: Giulio V.

Trying to modify the mobile menu is Frustrating. I have been trying to make my mobile navigation menu more user friendly, but no matter what I try to do I cannot change anything in it.

It is like I am Locked Out, I cannot change anything at all. I go to the Hamburger settings and try to change the background color, separatiton line, mouseover color, etc. etc. and nothing changes.

I am trying very hard to better categorize the mobil menu with the different levels with a different background color, font color etc.  but nothing changes at all.

Is there something wrong with my software?

It would be very appreciated if you kind folks could check out my terrible looking mobile menu on your smart phones and tell me what you think is going on and offer any suggestions how to make the menu less confusing.

My web address is  http://prolinesystems.net
Please have a look

Please take a look at my mobil menu on your smart phone, it will show up as a sticky menu when you scroll down.

I love the X5 program but sometimes there are things that are unusual and we need help.

Thank you to all that can offer an answer to what is going on.

Giulio

I have given up on the hamburger menu with it's maniacal submenu's opening and moving menu options making it all but impossible to navigate a site.

I now use the optional overlay menu which excludes submenus. On the appropriate submenu pages I add another menu or overlay menu to help the user.

Incomedia do need to address the poor functionality of the hamburger menu, it would not be hard to implement a flyout menu to display submenu pages.

I have marked your post for Incomedia's attention so they can again offer some excuse for why the default hamburger menu functionality is so poor.

Hi Esahc,

Thank you for your reply and bringing it to Incomedia's attention. What I don't understand is why I can not change ANYTHING AT ALL regarding to the colors of the Hamburger background menu when it is opened on a mobil device.

It is So PITIFUL that at this stage of the game where more than half people searching the internet is done on Smart Phones and Incomedia is not addressing this at all.

I have marked your post for Incomedia's attention so they can again offer some excuse for why the default hamburger menu functionality is so poor.

Giulio, as I said, there is little or no control of submenus for the burger menu, I have frequently resorted to maintaining a full text menu even for mobiles (I looked at your site, it would work for you but you may have to adopt a more minimalist naming convention for pages so you can make it fit)

See https://www.esahc.com on your mobile or desktop browser at minimum width. You will see this maintains the drop down sub menus correctly even on mobile (see topics) making it far easier to navigate.

Hi Esahc,

I did check your website on my moble phone and did see your text menu. I am not sure if this would work for me, for instance I have a web page called Frame Machines. On a larger screen on my regular menu when you click Frame Machines it drops down and shows a sub menu with the different models.

Is this possible to achieve on a text menu like yours?  https://prolinesystems.net/frame-machines.html

Why Incomedia hasn't addressed this by now is a major concern, and quite honestly it is a big failure or appears to be incompetence on their part.

I really like the X5 program, but I feel let down by a few things that appear to be quite simple to correct by people that are suposed to know how to program.

Thank you for your patience in helping me through this. Giulio

Hello Giulio, you can change the color of the HB menu. It's just very unintuitive and not logical to use.(INCOMEDIA PLEASE CHANGE!) This page is very frustrating to say the least.

To change the color of the HB menu do not click on it. (??????) Stay on the Main menu and click on the HB icon. Then you can change the properties.

If I have 14 main pages I put 2 seperate menu/rows in the header. With the mouseover color being yellow for the top and orange for the second row. Then I have 2 HB menus and no submenus. (I might have to try the overlay menu as Esahc uses.) This poor menu deal and only 10 breakpoints is enough to drive people away.

Best Regards

Hello Giulio,

The menus are independent.
If you have a main menu, which you edit in STEP 2 - Template content - Menu object.

It will only be for that menu.

I see you have a menu object in Sticky bar.
That menu is independent of the other one that is in the content of the template or header.

This allows you to edit the two independently with different colors.

The following screenshots are of a menu of the template content.

The following screenshots are from the sticky bar menu.

As you can see it is with different colors.

Do you edit the one on the sticky bar?

Perhaps it is that which does not allow you to visualize the changes.

If you want them to be identical, just edit in the main menu and copy the menu object to the sticky bar.

Quote, "I have done all that but nothing changes at all when I preview it. Its like it is not functioning properly."

Try the real browers in preview not just the X5 preview, top right. When you preview in a real browser press ctrl-F5.

Open your browsers, not in preview, and do a ctrl-shift-delete to clear everything. (Toggle the choices to clear all.)

Do a export to disk, go to the folder and double click on the index.html file, should open to your default browser. Right click and open with the others.

When you save your project after making the HB changes, close, and reopen are the changes still there?

Your project or X5 may be corrupt. Back up your project but do not overwrite old ones!

Download the latest version, uninstall X5, reboot and reinstall if you have not done so.

You might try a backup copy also, if you have not, and DO NOT SAVE, JUST CLOSE IT, or do a save as.

As awkward as it is, you can change the properties of the HB icon.

That menu problem is present if you have a lot of links with drop down menus ... It's a disaster in this app ... I hope a fix or some universal solution to the problem ...

Is Incomedia AWAKE to the NEEDS of their LOYAL CUSTOMERS? At this time in the evolution of programing and with 60% of my customers using their Cell phones to search, this should have been addressed by now and not even be an issue. They need to hire an expert right away who can make this work.

My customers complain it is very difficult to navigate and they leave my page. This is a huge failure of Incomedia to abandon us on this.

I really like working with X5 and been with thembut this needs to be fixed already. But I still don't know why I can't change the background color or Fonts of the hanburger background menu when it shows the tools to change them..

Now I know why everyone is telling me to convert to WordPress.

Hi Giulio,

as Donald mentioned, you can edit the Hamburger menu style on the Menu Object > Hamburger Menu section. If you have multiple menus, for instance one in the header and one in the Sticky Bar, you need to apply the changes on both Objects.

You mentioned the fact that the changes you apply aren't then visible: have you tried pressing CTRL+Preview? Also, what changes did you apply? Can you possibly post some screenshots?

Thanks! Kind regards.
