I am trying to move my websitye from one laptop to a new one. I have downloaded the project as a zip file following the instructions but when I have downloaded 80% of the project onto the new laptop I am told of an error and that the directory name must be less than 248 characters and that the name must be less than 260n characters. Any ideas?

Hi Peter, I think that is not a good approach. On the old laptop export your project as an izip file under STEP 5 | Export Project not Export Website! Copy the izip file to the new laptop and import it under the project page (right icon import).

Thank you for your response. it is the project that I have downloaded usoing the Export the Project route. It is saved as a duplicate as a iwzip file yet only 80% is the file is downloaded before I get the error message.

Is there a cloud drive or similar involved?

The error message indicates that the file name including the path is too long.

But it is strange that the error "path to long" pop ups after 80% of the download. To be honest, I didn't fully understand, what you are meaning with download. Why not an USB stick to transfer the izip file?

I have tried again, using a different USB stick to export the project (step 5). I  then import the zip file on the new laptop and it again only downloads 80% of the project before I get the error message 'The specified path, file name or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

I have no idea what the directory file is or what the specified path is!

Peter, can you import the iwzip onto the original PC? This will NOT overwrite your existing project.

Hi Peter, do you use the default installation settings for the project files?

They are normally stored liked that:

C:\Users\Username\Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Pro\XYZ_PROJECT\Preview\pluginAppObj\imStickyBar_pluginAppObj_08

The above has a 115 characters directory name, so even with nested directories plus filename it should be suffucient. Please have a look at the X5 Startpage under the settings icon for the entry of the project directory. Compare both versions (new / old) if they are differences please. You can try to setup a new and shorter path on the new laptop and give it a try.

I have finally managed to import my website after just repeating the process many times. Thank-you all for helping me through this. I can now get back to working on the website.
