Cannot export to hosting company with ftp  en

Author: Malcolm H.

I have a website (without a SSL certificate) but since last week I have not been able to upload it to the hosting company. Previously there has not been a problem.

Relevant entries are: Other Web Space Provider

Website Address (URL) http://www.rykneldbowlingclub.co.uk

Destination Folder: /public_html

When I try to Export - I get a message "The selected server or destination folder does not match the website URL. Do you want to set it now?"  I have clicked 'Yes' which shows the following Parameters:-

Server Type: FTP - File Transfer Protocol

FTP Address: ftp.rykneldbowlingclub.co.uk

Username: adminftp@140071455104723

Password: (i.e. password for the website at the hosting company)

I can access the website on the hosting company with FileZilla. The hosting company have introduced something called cPanel - which means nothing to me but may be the reason why I cannot upload?

Can you help please?

Kind regards, Malcolm

Website URL should have a / at the end.

Since an update has probably been made, enter the FTP password again; there may have been a space at the end. Also check the other FTP information again.

I also recently had the error message, although I thought I had entered everything correctly, but I don't remember exactly what I tried, but at some point the export worked again.

Hi Daniel and thanks for the quick response.

I have entered a / after the Website URL - but this has simply produced a different message "Unable to connect to server. Please check with your Internet Provider that you have the correct connection information."

Still unable to upload and further help would be welcome.

Then check the FTP credentials under...

5 Export > Export website to the Internet / Parameters

/ FTP /____________

... and if necessary, re-enter the password here, i.e. don't copy and paste it, but type it in to make sure that it doesn't contain any invisible spaces or control characters.

Find out from the web hosting provider which SFTP access data is required.

Daniel

I have tried Exporting with all four Export options - but none of these work.

However, if I try FileZilla - it connects to the website using Host name - ftp.rykneldbowlingclub.co.uk,  adminftp@140071455104723 plus my Password.

Strangely, if I use a different Host name - 92.205.146.3 - it shows "TLS connection established" - and "331 User adminftp@140071455104723 is Okay - Password is required" (which I had entered). It then shows "530 Login authentication failed". "Critical error. could not connect to server".

Not sure if this helps track down the problem.

Kind regards, Malcolm

Then ask the support of the web hosting provider for help.

I live in Germany and only have experience with the normal web hosting packages from Hosteurope (my websites) and Strato (my brother's website) and there are no problems with them.

If it doesn't work with WebSite X5, but does work with an FTP program and the same access data, then perhaps deactivate the firewall and anti-virus programs as a test.

Hi Daniel

1. I have asked my web hosting provider (123-Reg) for help. They have conducted tests and say that I should ask WebsiteX5 for help.

2. I also use Strato (to host my business website) and there are no problems Exporting to it from Website X5.

3. De-activating firewall and anti-virus programs make no difference.

4. When WebsiteX5 failed to Export my Rykneld site to the hosting company I tried FileZilla.

The first attempt failed. The second attempt produced a message to the effect that access was blocked because the Rykneld site did not have SSL - and that access would only be allowed if I clicked on a box in the message to accept responsibility. I clicked on the box and access was allowed - and continues to be allowed.

My hosting company moved to something call cPanel earlier this month - and it appears that Website X5 does not have the facility to allow a site without SSL to be exported to 123-Reg. Do you think my reasoning is correct? If so - what are the next steps with Website X5 to resolve the problem?

I have no experience with 123-reg, maybe there is a user of WebSite X5 who is also on 123-reg.

I live in Germany and upload websites to 2 web hosting providers.

-----

Hosteurope.de (My websites)

Website URL: https (Normal website)
Parameter / FTP / Server Type: FTP

Website URL: http (Test websites)
Parameter / FTP / Server Type: FTP

-----

Strato.de (My brothers website)

Website URL: https (Normal website)
Parameter / FTP / Server Type: SFTP

-----

With both web hosting providers, the websites can be exported to the web space via WebSite X5.

If an FTP connection cannot be established with WebSiteX5, then take screenshots of the FTP access data in the FTP program and in WebSiteX5 so that you and others can compare them directly and possibly find the error.
