Canonical Tag - How to properly add a Canonical Tag  en

I have about 4 URL'S on my site that are very similar in product and content, and all share similar Keywords and I need to know the proper way to make one important page the Canonical page.

I know I need the code to place in the main page I want to be the Canonical, but do I need to place any code in the other simiilar pages???

If you can provide the Canoical Code (with step by step instructions) this will be greatly appricated.

P.S. But why doesn't X5 have a way to simply do this?

Thank you, Thank you, Giulio

(It > En)  ... this is the TAG:
<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.yoursitename.en/" />
...!...correct the URL with the real URL you declared in Step_5...!...
... you must paste the TAG in the Properties of the HOME/INDEX page, in this section:

>>  Step 3 - Map > The 'Page Properties' window > Options in the Expert section | ▪ Custom Code: > 3rd option > Before closing the HEAD tag

.

ciao

KolAsim has already told you the instructions.
I personally believe that the CANONICAL TAG should ONLY be used for real duplicate content; and it does not apply to your case, since you say that there is similar content but combined with different products...
I would not use it...

The other simiar pages share many of the same keywords, so everything I read says in this case to make the exact page you want to be the canonical page. Search Words Are; Self Piercing Rivet Gun, Self piercing riveter, SPR Riveter, Self Piercing Riveter repair station, etc.

Links Examples: To help you better understand my situation.

This is the Page I need to be the Canonical Page.https://prolinesystems.net/gyspress-10t-riveter.html

This is one of the similar pages sharing the same keywords. https://prolinesystems.net/gyspress-10t-pp-self-piercing-riveter-workstation.html

Here is another Similar page sharing the same keywords. https://prolinesystems.net/self-piercing-riveter-by-dent-fix---df-spr67-.html

Yet Another page.https://prolinesystems.net/rivet-gun-compuspot-rg500-hydraulic.html

One More Please.https://prolinesystems.net/auto-body-rivet-guns.html

What I get when I researh this situation it advises that Google cannot determine which of these pages is the Canonical. So it will choose which it believes is the best choice. This could lower my rankings.

Finally: Using the Search term in Google is: "Self Piercing Rivet Gun"

My Concern is the page I want to be the Canonical was in The #1 position for two years, and within the last 3 or 4 months Google has dropped me to 8 or 9th position. Other sites that don't give as much detail as my page does, have replaced me. So So Sad...

Your opinions Are Very Appreciated. Giulio

... in most cases the canonical concerns the INDEX...
... for other cases rely on the reporting and guidance of Google itself...
... if necessary, use the URL of the page considered canonical...

Putting CANONICAL the way you want to do it would only generate bogus traffic that would turn against you...
maybe it has already happened with all those lost positions...

but if you want to put it, just add the TAG in the other pages and refer to the main one...

again, in my opinion it's a mistake.

Google is smarter than you think, if it has good content over time it will come out...
trying to fool it, you will only be penalised

KolAsim has sugested to place the Canonical code in the properties of the page I need to make Canonical. Am I correct?

If so, do I also need to place the canonical code on the pages I want to refer to the canonical page?

I'm Sorry to be a bit unsure about properly doing this. Your help is greatly apppreciated.

If you want to move in that direction.
Yes you have to put it on all the relevant pages.
If you don't put the canonical tag in those pages, how will Google know that you want to consider the other one as the main page ?
