Multi language changes my homepage to ugly format  de

Author: Linus J.

I activated the multi-language automatic redirection for my website. Suddenly, the site looks very ugly when I use the normal URL: https://website-name.at.

However, if I open https://website-name.at/home.html, it looks good and everything is normal. The problem occurs only on the homepage. Why is this happening? What is the issue?

Was the "Advertising Message" activated and then deactivated again?

If so, delete the index.php file on your web space.

Sorry, I think it used to be like that, but now it's obviously different because I couldn't find index.php or home.html when I tested it.

Sorry 2 - it was the "intro page", here an index.php file is created, which must be deleted from the webspace if the intro page is deactivated.

@Incomedia: When creating an intro page, the content of the index.html file is distorted and the text is displayed twice.

Dear Daniel,

Thank you very much for your assistance. I deleted the index.html file, and the website is working again.

@incromedia: Why do I need to delete a file manually for the website to function? Don't I need the index file? Should I recreate it?

@Daniel: Is it OK to keep the website without an index.html file?

Best regards,
Linus

With webspace, there is a specific order in which files are displayed when the domain is accessed, e.g.:

index.html
index.php
home.html

If the first file is in the list, it will be displayed; otherwise, the next file in the list will be displayed.

So if the faulty index.html file is removed, the next file in the list is displayed, i.e. the index.php file with the language selection.

Hello Linus,
apologies for the inconvenience.
When a project is first exported without an entry page, by default its homepage is index.html/.php, but when an entry page is later created, the homepage becomes home.html/.php and the entry page becomes the new index.html/.php file
If the extension of the entry page and homepage are different, this can lead to situations where the files are not overwritten.
As the software never deletes files from the hosting space automatically, I recommend checking the situation of index and home files after working with disabling/enabling the entry page on your versions of the website, to avoid the presence of duplicates.
If you want to make sure that only the files corresponding to the current versions of each page are there, you can delete all index and home files, then export the website again choosing to publish all files.

Online translation:

Hallo Linus,

Hello,

since Login on my Homepage doesn't work anymore(it jumps to 404 Not Found). Should I delete all Index and Home pages, and publish all files again?

Hello Eric,

The issue is resolved now. Perhaps you could add a notice in red within the entry section settings to highlight this issue and prevent similar problems in the future.

Thanks,

Linus
