Dear Ms/Sir:

Problems with email communication setup:

I have WebSiteX5 Evolution 9. I am trying to set up a web site with a page for users to make comments, which should be mailed to my one.com email address. However, I don’t seem to be doing it right.

How do I go about to make text fields, where: The first should be the sender’s mail (i.e., return) address. The second should be the mail’s subject header The third should be the mail’s body text These should be followed by the anti-spam routine, after which the mail should be sent to my one.com email address (without having to type that in specifically).

Another question: If I should choose to write/modify some of the code in PHP, how do I access it?

A third one: When you state "user" and "sender" email addresses in your Email Form Object, am I the "user" (owner of web site)? The terminology is somewhat confusing...

Best regards, Knut Guettler

Hello Knut,

Regarding the comments on your site there's a html widget called GuestBook which does what you are looking for, just be sure to have php5 enabled on your hosting provider.

For the second question you can use the Email form object:

  • first field -> email  [sender]
  • second field -> text field [subject]
  • third -> text area [body]
  • fourth -> captcha field

Then go to the sending tab and choose the first field as sender e-mail and your e-mail address as the receiver e-mail, compile the subject and message fields as well.
In order to modify .php files you have to do it after the site is exported, but in this case with can't guarantee the site will continue to work.
Finally the user field is the field where you have to write your e-mail adress while the sender's one is actually the person who has compiled the form.
Please let me know if I can help you any futher! Thank you!

Using the email form object, I have created an email contact box for customers with Name, Email address and Comment fields. However I am finding it dificult to understand the email form fields under Send:

Below are the steps I have taken.

Under the section Data Submission:

1) I have chosen  Send data by email

2) I have checked the Sender email address and automatically the word Email is filled in this field. Do I have to check this Sender email address and who is the sender in this case, me (the user of this software) or the visitor to my website?

3) In User email address field, whose email should I type?

4) In the Object feld, I have typed Enquiry

5) What is the message field for

6) I have not checked the Include collected data in CSV format box. Is this important?

Under Confirmation email for the user section:

1) Should I check the send a confirmation email to the user? And who is the user in this case? Myself or the visitor to the website?

2) Should I check Sender email address, and who is the sender in this case?

3) User email address field has been automatically filled with the word Email

4) I have filled Object field with the words Thank You

5) In Message field I have written. Than. We shall soon respond

6) I did not check the Include the collected data box

7) I have checked enabed Captcha Anit-spam filter

8) In the field, Confirmation Page after sending data, I have entered the Home page

Let me know what are the steps to be taken to ensure that this form works?

Thanks.

Rushana

Hello Rushana,

I'll try to reply you point by point:

DATA SUBMISSION

1) Correct

2) The visitor of your website

3) Your email (the user of the software)

4) It's ok

5) It's a text message that will be set before the fields compiled by your visitor in the email you'll receive

6) No, it's not important is an option

CONFIRMATION EMAIL

1) You can choose if you want to send a confirmation email to your visitor after he has compiled your form.
2) Yes, in this case the sender is you or an other email address you choose (this is beacuse maybe you want to receive visitor's email to a different address).
3)Yes, because in this case the sender is your visitor.
4)yes, correct
5)correct
6)ok, it's an option
7)ok, if you want to have this control
8)ok

I guess your form will work correctly, the only way to be sure is try it in a real site :)

Hope this helps

I am also having problems with this form.

Under Data Submission, I have checked Sender email address thoughI'm not sure what this is for! Nothing appears in the box (nor is anything visible when I click on the drop-down arrow) - yet an exclamation mark in a red circle appears telling me that this is a "mandatory data field". Exactly the same thing happens next to User Email Address, on the right-hand side of the window under Confirmation Email for the User. I want to view my form, but at present when I press OK I'm told I have to enter all mandatory fields to continue.

Hello Mckinney,

in order to have the field "Sender email address" filled correctly you need to set an e-mail address field type under the tab "list", this field will be filled by the visitors of your site while compiling the form and you will receive the email as it was sent by him.

The "user email address" is your email, the address where you want to receive the email from the form.

On the right-hand you can choose to send an other email (it is an option) , but this time to the visitor of your site, in this case the sender are you so you must fill the field "sender email address" with your email.

If you need further information please refer to our manual from page 86, thank you.
