Upgrade v8 to v9
Author: P. R.I'm very sorry to inform you I'm not pleased at all with my upgrade to version 9. First it took about 15 minutes to convert my relative simple and straight forward website. I think this means a major conversion of the HTML-code. During this conversion the software needed the total capacity of the processor which was going to a critical temp limit. Maybe it's not designed for a simple dual core AMD… (which is also too old I presume…?). After the temp was dropping and the external fan could be silenced, I was ready for the biggest surprise. The complete design of the website was gone! As I read in the Conversion PDF "the oldest templates have been removed". As far as I could see there were maybe only few templates left and I don't know why. Why the $#@&% do you think you can decide the template I used is too old and can therefore be deleted? What would be the problem of leaving the old templates, at least in an "TOO OLD" folder? What's it to you if I like a design? Of course you can put in new templates, nice, but why completely deleting the old ones? Why am I suddenly not allowed my design anymore? You could at least have taken over the used template while converting the website: it's only a few files in the version 8 folders. This way everybody would be happy: you don't have to carry this apparently burden, I can stil use the template I like, and new users never know what they are missing. I presume there is a new and too young head of department who wanted to get rid of all that old garbage.
It's a shame you don't realize the effort many good-willing people are making by building websites for non-profit organisations who can't affort much money. Now it's costing a lot of unneccesary hours of recreating the website as it was. And by the way: how do I do that? I'm no graphic specialist!
I'm glad I preserved the version 8 IWP-file, for I will keep using version 8 for now. There's always a small hope you will come with an update to improve performance and processor utilisation. Maybe even incorporate the old templates after all. I don't ask my money back, but I won't recommend you any more.
At this moment I'm working on a workaround for my template. I choose the folder with the same template name in version 9 (it's in a 'Templates' folder now) and rename the #4 color folder. Then I create a new #4 folder and copy my [too] old template from version 8 in it. I restart version 9 and there is my old template as one of the 4 colors… or at least the header and footer, but the body gone. Apparently version 9 is doing some other things with the template-files.
So, Incomedia, tell me what to do or please do some things about this all. I don't think I'm the only one complaining.
Thanks

Dear P.R,
good morning. I'm very sorry to read such dissapointment in your words. The software takes a certain amount of time to build your website the first time because it has to recreate each and every image and file you have placed in it and translate it into HTML 5 codes.
Each and everyone of you has different taste as style therefore it of course is not possible to make each and everyone of you happy.
Therefore what we did was this: restyle all the templates and add all the template packs previously created for Evo 8 into Evo 9. We did of course think of all of you that have used templates belonging to Evo 8, and here's what you have to do, it really is simple. Please follow carefully:
-Choose the menu type according to the menu you have added to your Website
-Page Section - Let's choose the first ''Page Background''.
-Choose the image called ''bg'' form your project file and add it in the ''Image file'' section then choose one of the options in the drop down menu of the ''repeat'' section. This has to be chosen according to the image you have added. If you have a small square for example (just a color) you have to add the ''tile image'' option.
Please try and let me know if I can help you any futher.
Thank you!

Hi Smantha,
Thanks for your answer. I'm sorry, to have too little time. I will try your suggestions as soon as possible and get back to you afterwards.
Meanwhile I ask myself: if it's so easy to convert the template I used, why doesn't Incomedia do it for me? Then conversion process is already long as it is, a few more minutes frees me from a lot of time and stress!
I'll get back with the results.

Good morning!
My pleasure P.R.!
It only takes a bit the first time and the program can not do it for you because you have to tell him where to pick the images from.
Ok, thank you for your time!

Hi Samantha,
OK, now I had a bit of time to explore your suggestions. Indeed, it worked.
Although... the footer is a bit too wide but I cannot reset it. The width is grayed out. When I tried to set the 'Page Content' to match the footer, it was grayed out too. The only object I could change was the header. I made sure the widths of all objects were the same, but still the footer was wider than the page content and header.
By the way (1): a have an info-ticker on the homepage. In v9 Evolution the speed is much too high, so it didn't convert well? Now I have to check the whole site, because I'm not sure what else is changed.
By the way (2): The 'project folder' you mention is really the 'models' folder in the v8 program folder. I noticed in v8 there is only an IWP-file. Version 9 however creates - beside the IWP-file - the complete website on a drive I don't want (before I knew what it was doing), in a 'Preview' and an 'Upload' folder. I still don't know where I can change that.
I hope you can comment on all, but at least on the footer width, because this is the biggest problem and it's affecting all pages.
Thanks for your time!

Hello!
Could you please attach a screenshot of the template settings and of the preview so that I may see what it looks like and get straight to the point?
1) How did you add the info ticker? What object did you use?
2) You musn't change that! Evo 9 creates a backup for your project automatically. That is your project file and if you touch that you will mess up your project. You can change the destination of that file, in the ''Preferences'' section on the bottom left hand side of the program window, as soon as you open it.

Hi Samantha,
It's been a while, but I will try to finish this problem for good.
Enclosed you'll find a PDF-document with all the screenshots you asked for. Reduced in size, but readable. As you can see all widths are 943, but the footer is not aligned on the right side.
The ticker was added in v8, but I cannot find how and where. The preserved v8-version of the IPW-file is not working anymore...
If the graphic is ok I'm no longer as desperate as I am now, so I hope you can help me out.
Thanks.

Hi! Sorry for making you wait!
I know understand. Well you see that is not a program issue nor something you are doing wrong. The template is actually done like that, it does not match perfectly on the bottom right hand side. This is probably the reason why we changed it in Evolution 9. If it worked in Evo 8 it's probably because the right border changes according to what has been added in the page content. Please try to add more content and preview to see what happens then, eventually please attach your content image and your footer to this post so that I may test it myself.
Thank you.

Hi Samantha,
Never mind waiting... I'm not that fast....
You can look at my website completely converted to version 9 here: www.vocalgroup-timeless.nl. As you can see, I was able to reconstruct the website as it was with the use of the original version 8 template (Abstract Tech/Hor). The only thing left is the width of the footer is still a bit to wide (allthough everything has a width of 943). It's ok, when I close my eyes I can't see it...
I still don't get it though, because in version 9 the graphic files of the templates are the same. The only thing that has changed is the grouping and location of the files. Please have another look if the old templates could be organised in version 9 as well?
Another question struck me while working to use the old template. What will happen if I deinstall version 8? I presume the templates will be gone too. How do I solve this if I want to keep the used template? No deinstall? To keep my system clean I want to deinstall version 8 now. Do I need to copy the used template in the new structure?
Thanks for your help, but please: on the next upgrade take all the graphics along!
Thanks.

Hello P.R.!
I checked the template files in Evo 8 and the header - content and bottom width are ''945'' not 943''.
Here are the template mesurements:
Header: 945x138
Content: 945x10
Footer/bottom: 945x62
I have attached them to this post for you.
Please check their measurement in your project and let me know if they are the same.
if you disinstall your program you aren't able to install again because you have an upgrade, but, if you need it I can help you install again, no worries!
Thank you!
