Guestbook Spam Protection
Author: Jansen R.Like me a lot of many users of Website X5 v9 get tons of spam!
Anyone can leave a message in the guestbook.
The website owner has to read them all, and then have to decide to publish or delete the message.
When you have a lot of spam it takes a lot of time, time you rather spend doing other things.
To solve this problem, i thought something out for the website X5 creators:
Make it possible to move spammers on a "BLACK LIST"
When people wants to leave a message, they must fill in their name and e-mail adress.
When people repeatedly send spam, i want to move them to a black list, preventing them making new "spam" messages.
Will they continu to send spam, they have to create a new e-mail adress first, and i am able to move it on a "BLACK LIST", so it takes a lot of time of the spammers too.
This might be a step forward against blocking spam.
Please let me know what you think about it.

Richard jansen
Dear Jansen,
first of all, thank you very much for posting the idea.
Unfortunately the programs used to generate spam are very complicated. The one you suggest could work the first time and give problems the next I'm afraid. They do not use the same email everytime.
Our technical team will add other methods if possible in the future.

Thank you Samantha for your answer,
I have a spammer who is using the same email everytime, that's why i come up with this idea.
Using my idea, i can block him and force him to create a new email everytime he wants to send unnecessary messages or spam.
Hopefully he will give up after a couple of times using this blocking method.
For this particular problem, i believe my idea is the correct solution. In any case it's a start dealing with spam/unwanted/unnecessary messages.
I hope your technical team will come up with a solution for this sort of problems in the nearby future, because it's very frustrating deleting messages from the same sender, without the right resources to stop him.
Regards,
Richard Jansen
I understand, thank you for explaining so well! I have passed this information on to them!

I do hope your technical team find this a usefull supplement, and that they will build it in the program. Thank you Samantha for passing it through!
It could also be an idea to have the option to auto block URLs and also messages longer than X words. In my case the spammers are using 38 lines of words and several URLs, and it's a bit annoying of course ;)

Ok, so when you are able to move the sender(spammer) to a black list, you have to read all the crap only once.
But spammers or maybe acquaintances who are envious and therefore leave shortmessages with unwanted/unnecessary content, often in just one or two sentences must be blocked too, not just only the spam existing of many lines and several URL's.
I hope, the technical team agree that this is a serious problem, and that they come up with a solution, as simple as a black (block) list.

Dear Samantha,
Where it all comes down to is the following:
As a website owner you must me able to have some control over the person who wants to leave a message in my guestbook with false intentions.
Please provide us with a tool, a control panel, that we can use against such a person.
I very much regret, that a lot of customers/users facing the same problem, are incapable to stop it.
I would appreciate if the technical team make this kind of problem a point of interest.
Dear Jansen, they definitely will work on this I can not teel though, when or if they will reliese this shortly.
Thank you for understanding.
