Where is My Post About The New Upgrade 9?  en

Author: Nigel W.

It's interesting and also ignorant that my comments about the new version have been hidden!

Here we have a programmer who may well be a genius but has created a very UNintuitive upgrade that has caused so many people total havoc!

Is it a case of cash before caution?

BE REAL!

Admit your failures, please and put them right or your credibility rating will be ZERO!

Im sure that is indeed the case, however like I mention in my post, they can only play God with there own website, I am sure Facebook and Twitter generate a great deal many more hits :)

I will allow them the oportunity to prove me and many others wrong, however if the thread is deleted, then it only goes to serve my thoughts that its time to up the ante :)

This was my original comment...Incidentally, I have a "Saving project and updating files" bar up since 2pm...it's now 10-15pm. I shall leave it overnight and for the whole week if necessary.

I have found a way of keeping the version 8 site, updating and publishing it and then running two versions of version 8 and copying new pages to a new "iwp": "new pages", which I will eventually let version 9 update and then run two copies of version 9 and transfer over the new pages to version 9...easy!

I am sure not going to risk deleting my published version 8 site and then find that it takes the rest of my life to publish version 9!

I stand to lose a substantial income if that wasw to happen!

Right...here's my original post that was made "private":

Windows 7 Home Premium

Intel(R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU  E8600 @ 3.33 GHz  3.34GHz

4.00 GB Ram

64-bit operating system

Website to upgrade:http://www.hampsteadheath.net(363 pages)

I have just experienced the worst six days of sheer frustration, anger and discontent that I have ever gone through. (Well…since the old days when all software was a nightmare to run and cumbersome to install!)

This upgrade must surely rank as one of the worst in history!

It is untried, untested and totally unfit for purpose!

I installed the rotten package!

Great! No problem.

Then I went through the process of upgrading my old version 8 “.iwp”, which aborted on the first attempt with some sort of ironic message about “memory problems”!

Realizing that the conversion took HOURS, I set it going AGAIN overnight and it did convert the website…eventually.

I started to edit and, almost immediately, I was aware of all sorts of processes commencing that prevented me from editing more than a few items.

Ah…yes! I soon discovered the “Format” page and quickly unticked EVERYTHING but the “Update” box.

However, I couldn’t get out of some underlying mirky process that was preventing me from closing the programme!

When I did close it and reopen it later, it told me that I hadn’t saved properly and proceeded to start ANOTHER underlying process of…recovery?

This has been going on ALL week…I am obstinate; I am determined….but the crazy software beat me into submission.

Occasionally…MIRACLE…it let me do some editing!

I redesigned my Home Page, going through all the new tweaks and getting everything nice and neat.

I then looked at my pages and did some tidying up, although two pages couldn’t be loaded in PREVIEW, although they were clearly visible for editing.

Through the week I managed to edit a third of my site.

Yesterday…I pressed “X” by mistake, thinking all was safe!

Ah…it asked me if I wanted to “save” and I indicated that I did.

Great!

GREAT?

NO WAY!

Every move I then made, after opening the programme caused up to an hour of “freezing” activity as if the programme was trying to resave!

EVERY time I then opened the upgraded project, every time it told me I hadn’t saved properly!

WHY OH WHY aren’t there any “save” progress bars, other than the one which shows if one clicks on “SAVE”?

Obviously, I had corrupted something…don’t know what!

Many good features have disappeared.

For example, mouse tips can only be formatted for the whole website.

OK! The programme feels good in its ability to make a nice neat website but, for my part, out of SIX DAYS I only had two hours to be able to enjoy it.

I’ve deleted EVERYTHING now of this lovely 9 upgrade…or should I say DEGRADE?

I cannot express my wretchedness and depression enough.

You know what?

WHY SHOULD I PAY £30 TO SPEND SIX DAYS TORTURED ALMOST TO DEATH BY A PIECE OF ILL CONCEIVED SOFTWARE THAT HAS BEEN RUSHED INTO PRODUCTION BEFORE IT WAS PROPERLY FUNCTIONAL?

The more I play with version 9, the more I think about jumping ship and trying something else.

Whilst CLaudio has seemingly answered my private thread, it appears that he neglected to suitably read, or address the concerns I laid out in relation to "quality customer care"

I would be greatful, if just maybe you could have the courtesy of reading this post, or at least be a man of your word and issue some kind of refund, as you have stated you feel is a reasonable right to ask for.

You see, my issue is not about getting money back and going elsewhere, its about you guys sitting up and taking notice.

The private I refer to ishttp://answers.websitex5.com/post/3037

I would be greatful if you could take a moment and read my concerns and mutual solution. I am not seeking a refund, unless pushed in that direction - I am merely asking you to consider the alternative duely noted in theat private thread.

Of course I would assume that this is not likely to happen, and if this suspicion is correct, it will leave me no alternative but to publish such findings publicly, as I have by your request kept things to a bare minimum publicly and tried to keep negoitiations to "private".
