Why no upgrade in the Blog section in Version 9  en

Why is there no upgrade in the Blog section in Version 9 Hi Last year I purchased a set of templates from X5 this year I purchased in a box version 9 I noticed that X5 has taken out quite a lot of the facilities from the blog section; there is no choice of what blog template I can now have. My question and help is how can I get the templates for the blog section into version 9.I would like to point out that when anyone purchases an upgrade you would think it would be an improvement on the previous version, In this case the issue regards the blog section as had quite a lot taken out and no upgrade on the current blog section and there is no choice of what blog template I can chose from, This seems to me that I have wasted my money on purchasing the templates last year. I would just like the old blog version 8 incorporated into version 9 Can you help please.

Hello Christine,

as you can see, in version 9, the blog template is the same as the website template. We did it because many customers asked us this feature. Infact they prefer to have the same template of their website.

This new feature has many advantages:

  • same template of the website
  • you can edit the blog template using the template editor at step 1
  • you can use all the 1500 templates and not only the few ones present in version 8 for the blog.
  • you can create your own template via the custom template

For the customers, like you, that prefer to leave a different template just for the blog, the solution is quite simple. You can create a new project using WebSite X5 and create your blog. If you do in this way you can:

  • use any template you want from the 1500 present in version 9
  • create your own template, using the custom template option. By this way you can also recreate a template you used in version 8
  • customise the template via the template editor at step 1

Then, you simply need to export the project on a subfolder (ie: myblog) and link it to the mail website.Hope this helps! Wink

Hi, Thank you but you have not answered my question, I mentioned that an upgrade surpose to be an improvment on the older ver in this instance with the blog its not the case.

So you are saying I have to start all over again with a blog. Not so simple as you have advertised, and NO MENTION of this when we purchase the set of templates from you last year.

Now can you please send me full instructions on just what I need to do to the have a choice of blog templates in ver 9 as what I got in Ver 8.

You cannot as you have removed this from ver 9, that does not seem to me to be an upgrade but a downgrade and no mention of this in your advetisement on promoteing ver 9.

You will be no doubt bringing out another version but with the track recaord of not being up front one wonders if your get many purchaser. I might have stayed with Ver 8

Again please can you send me full instruction on what you have mentioned. Kind regards Christine.

Hello Christine, as I describe you above, all you have to do is:

  • duplicate the project that contains the blog
  • remove all the pages from the map at Step2, so the website will be empty
  • change the template as you prefer from Step1, you can also now customise the header/footer
  • upload this new project in the folder MyBlog, so it would be visible at www.yourwebsite.com/MyBlog

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can help you more.

Thank you, please could you send to my email address the  full instruction for a dummy like myself.

Again you still have not responded to the question I have asked.

It has been stated to me in an email by your sale staff that many customers did not want blogs etc., I have seen no evidence of this , please advise from what survey you have got this information from, I have not seen any survey or request asking what users of X5 have been asked, or they asked if they wanted any changes.

Unless you are going to answers my questions with a stright answer and not attempt to do what most politician do and move around questions with a none response, I would assume your giving out information that you want your users to have and not respond to me and It would seem I am waisting my time asking for answers. So lets not have another resonce that is not a response but a load of unhelpfull text.  Kind Regards Christine

Hello Christine, I try to answer to your question:

1. You set your post as Correct. You just need to click the button to "Set the post as not correct". I did it for you.

2. we decided to change the blog settings accourding to the info we collect from our customers requests (forum, phone calls, emails, private messages, etc).

3. I already gives you all the info about how to add a blog with your custom template above. Here is the text again:

Thank you for setting the post for me.

I understand about what you have said about what your users wanted, but I cannot find any info regards to your statement or have seen anything on this, I believe it was what X5 wanted, as NO USER would want to down grade their software as you have said,  Show me the evidence that users wanted to downgrade their software options in the blog issue.

Anyway that is not the biggest issue it’s all about getting having a choice of template blogs into an upgrade but has been taken out by X5 and then call version 9 an upgrade. You know full well what I am saying and maybe you could ask for a section of the Tips & Tricks to run a section to cover this issue and show us all how it is done, as you must realise many customers have chosen X5 as it is simple to run, “BUT” not when it comes to problems and issues like I have drawn to your attention, Please consider my suggestion regards Tips &Tricks it would boost your rating’s no end.  Kind regards Christine

Hello Christine, I set this post as correct, just because I answered your question about how to set a personal graphic for your blog above (the post I set as correct).

About the new update, as I already posted you here, I confirm that version 9 permits to have many more features for the blog too. These are the main differences:

Version 8 -> You can choose a blog template from a limited list (about 80)

Version 9 -> Creating a new project you can choose from all the existing template (about 1500)

Version 8 -> You can not create a custom template for the blog

Version 9 -> Creating a new project you can create a custom template for the blog

Version 8 -> You can not edit the template

Version 9 -> You can edit the template

Version 8 -> You can not have the same template of you website and you need to find a graphic that could not be related to the one of your website

Version 9 -> You can have the same template of you website and you do not need to find a graphic that could not be related to the one of your website

Version 8 -> You can not add captcha to the comment

Version 9 -> You can add captcha to the comment

Version 8 -> You can not have a rss feed for the blog

Version 9 -> You can have a rss feed for the blog

Version 8 -> You can have just one graphic for the AddThis button

Version 9 -> You can have more graphics for the AddThis button

Version 8 -> The blocks present at the left of the page are fixed and you can not modify them

Version 9 -> You can choose the block you want, and you can also add a custom one!

Version 8 -> You can not choose the blocks style for the blog page

Version 9 -> You can choose the blocks style for the blog page

Version 8 -> You can add a post using a plain text editor

Version 9 -> You can add a post using a visual text editor (bold, italic, align, etc)

Version 8 -> You can not add links inside a post

Version 9 -> You can add links inside a post

Yes, this could be a brief summary of what we dit in version 9 vs version 8 Tongue out

Thanks, Steve.
