FTP Changes in Vr.9 has me confused

ALSO, I am ready to upload the new Vr 9 website from Old Vr8 website and am choosing to just overwrite the old vr 8 site.
Questions... The old FTP Client in Vr8 always worked good but there are some New Items to check off in Vr9 FTP.
1- The Old Vr8 has a Forward Slash mark in the Initial Directory box / in the Vr9 it is Empty (no slash) so should I put the forward slash / in the now called Optional Parameters Destination Folder box?
2- Should I use the Enable GZIP Compression? My host did not know what that was. Is it just for uploading to their server faster? Are there any benefits
3- Another New thing is Simultaneous Connections which shows "3" in the box, this was not in Vr8, should I go with that or go with "0" I am a bit nervous and your support is always appreciated more than you can imagine.
Please forgive the Caps I know it sounds like screaming but I just want to make sure you understand my issues before I upload the new Vr9 site to avoid a catastrophe.
I really want to push the Upload button ASAP.

Here some simple explanations:
No, you can leave it empty and the software will connect to the main folder of your site. To make sure you're connected to the right folder, just check if there are the files of the old site in there (like a folder called 'res').
It's not mandatory. GZIP only makes the transfer to be really faster than before. If your server doesn't support it, don't worry and just uncheck the option.
The minimum number of connections is 1. If your set 3 and your server doesn't support multiple connections you will be warned by an alert message and the software will not connect. In this case, just set 1 and try again.
