Unfortunately I cannot give you support to custom code but it should work. Check that you uploaded the files in the correct directory and that the code is executed correctly in the broswer. I would suggest you to search more information about the script on search engines like google or wait that someone on the comunity answers you.

In the shopping cart, is it possible to leave out the description and just have the product title but have the description displayed in the product pages still

I'm sorry but it's not possible to leave out the description in the shopping cart. The system uses the description if you added one to the product. It's made so to a cart that shows clearly what the customer is buying.
