Why is it that Gif File do not work in Ver9

The problem I seem to have is I have gone over to ver9  but I find none of my gif files move any longer in ver9 and in some cases have changed to the wrong a wrong Gif file (such as banners ect, they are not what I have set up. but they all still move in ver 8 I have imported from ver 8 and none seems work in Ver 9 . I have deleted and re-inserted the moveing gif files ie banners etc but they just wont move. and it seem that the gif images have chnged and are not what I inserted into that page etc. Any Idea why this is . Am I missing something, I have been at this for the past 2 weeks but just giveing up Kind Regards Christine

Hi Christine, the animated gif file should work in the same way as version 8. Can you tell me where are you trying to insert the animated gif file, ie: header/footer of the template editor, Image Object, Text Object, etc.

Thanks.

Hi I have inserted these gif images on the Home page. it works ok with ver 8 but not with ver 9 I have a moving union flag that moves but our local flag does not (blowing in the wind) I also have other gif file images that all work in ver 8 but do not in ver 9 I have also found that some gif images have changed , in other words they are not the one I placed in certain places but have moved to be taken and place by other images. sorry for not being so clear but I have never had this problem with ver8. I have not put any gif images into the header or footer.

I would have thought that when I imported my website from ver 8 to ver 9 It would run without all this problems. I have even removed and then replaced some gif images into ver 9 and it even changes to other gif images.  Kind Regards Christine.

sorry forgot to mention the images are placed in the home page by using the image icon

and all the gif images are stored in a folder. this is no different than what I have done  ver 8 and have had no problems. Christine

Hello Christine,

The only solution could be that the image file is too large for the cell size. In this case WSX5, as it did for version 8, resizes the image and saves it as JPG so you'll lose the animation. Please be sure there's enought space in the cell to view the image. Please attach here the GIF file so I can also test it Wink

Hi I am not sure what you mean. If you mean to make the image larger I have tried that and also to make it smaller. Can you please give me instructions on how to make the cell 6pix bigger? I have tried many different home page sections for each cell but it makes no difference to the flag or the other gif images. They just change to the wrong images I have different gif images for different text comment themes. we run a community website that has a number of issues so we use different gif images to illustrate each article but now we have imported the ver 8 to ver 9 all the images have changed and got mixed up to different themes.

This is so anoying as it is giving me so much work that I can well do without, Ver 8 is great but this Ver 9 just has so much need to be done with it  after ver 8 website as been imported it to Ver9.  I look forward in you sorting this one out for me.

Hello Christine, it works exactly as version 8. It depends on the cell size and the template you chose. If the cell width is smaller than the GIF width, then the GIF file will be saved as JPG.

The image you attached here is 350px large, so you need to insert it into a cell that is bigger than 350px. Note that avery cell has a margin too you have to calculate.

What a lot of messing about maybe it would be polite if you tell people of the problem with ver9 and how what works in ver8 does not run in ver 9 unless you have to start messing about with all this cell size. we did not have this problem with ver 8 . You (X5) has greated this problem. When any purchases ver 9 they should be informed of this problem and maybe you could change the format on the next update.  You have still not told me how to change the cell size as what I ask for. Christine

Hello Christine, you can change the cell width in different ways (as version 8):

  • you can delete column
  • you can set the Image Object to fill 2 or more columns

Moreover in version 9 you can also change the column width by dragging the icon you find in the bottom toolbar at step 3.

Please set the Image Object in order to fill all the first row, or add the Image Object in a page that contains only 1 column.

Let me know.

Hi I have played around with this issue for near 3 weeks, and I am giving it up, it means getting all the gif images reduced in size. I would have thought that when you developed the new ver. 9 you could have left the cell sizes as for ver. 8 as a default and incorporated a section to change it if one needs to in ver. 9 but you have upgraded this section and have changed the format and I just cannot get to grips with it.

I will be taking ver. 9 off my PC as it is not as user friendly as ver. 7 and 8 for what I purchased it for. Ver9 is in my opinion no way as good for being user friendly as other versions. The templates will not run in Ver 7/8 and for over £70.00p I feel it is wasteed money. I cannot even get my templates that I purchased from you for ver 8 to run in ver. 9 again wasted money. I may be a bit silly but not that daft to buy any other products from you, until you have made a program as like the first 2 ver. but I am sure not going to throw money away again in future until you have sorted out these problems. Thank you for the time spent with me but it seems to have been a waste of time. Must get back to earning a living without all these problems. Christine

PS.  why is it you could not have left the format cell size the same as ver. 8 and incorporated a section to change it if one needed to, so when you import from 8 to 9 all this messing about would not then be necessary?

Hello Christine,

I created a test for you here: http://www.websitex5.co.uk/_st/gif

If you want to create a test project and let me have it as IWZIP, I can test it. Thanks.
