Since upgrading to Ver 10, the email message facility does not seem to work. I am using the Captcha and the program sends a message to the person asking a question OK but does not send the question to the email address of the website owner. I have tried just about everything but cannot make it happen. A solution would be helpful.

Hi Brian,

Can you visit www.yoursite.com/admin/login.php replacing yoursite.com with your domain name as appropriate.

Use your Admin username and password to log in.  If you don't know what these are then you can find them by going to Step 4 - Advanced Settings - Access Management

Once logged in use the built-in email diagnostics to check for any errors, and to send test messages to yourself.  You can try altering the script if the 'Standard Script' doesn't appear to work.  The screen should be self-explanatory but give us a shout if you get stuck!

Have logged in as admin and I see three green bars.

PHP Version: 5.2.14  Pass

Session support Pass

Server public folder path (site root folder) Pass

I have tried to send emails to two of the three email addresses I use. Nothing arrived.

I changed to low level script, nothing arrived at either address

What is happening I have no idea but I have not altered that screen in the projects since upgrading to ver 10 and it worked perfectly before. I have three websites with the same screen message facility and a captcha and none of them send the message to the designated web site email although the person making the query gets an acknowledgement email correctly.

Log in to my website http://rowifi.com/ndc/index.html and try sending me a message. You will find the screen under "Reference" and "Scrapbook"

If I see it, I will use it to reply if you like.

Slight revision. I can send emails to two of my email addresses using the admin screen you suggested but the third does not work. The address is correct but the two that get the mails are @btinternet.co which is on the machine I am using. The third uses an @domain name on a separate machine.

However as I said, the reply system is not working although when I am at the web users location and use the screen with send and reply to that user's email, it does work and does get the customer query email. Any other person logging on through the web site and using the query/message screen gets the automated reply but nothing goes to the web user email box

I have to believe there is a software problem underlying this as it worked before 10 but not after.

Good morning Brian, I've just read your replies.

It's not necessarily an X5 problem although it's understandable why you might think that is the case having just upgraded.  But please see this very recent thread from another user who had just upgraded, and in whose case the issues were at the server end and completely coincedental to X5:

http://answers.websitex5.com/post/63634

I'd like to suggest that you delete your entire project from the server, then reupload afresh, to flush out any corrupt/old files.

Could you also confirm that you are running the very latest version of Evolution 10 (10.0.6.31) as there were some changes made to the Email Form object in the latest patch.

PS: could you also check the settings you have in Step 4 - Advanced Settings - Data Management uder 'E-mail form data submission type'  -  if set to 'GET' then try 'POST' and vice-versa.  Also try each of the three script types with both of these combinations.

I am using the latest version of X5 and have tried all the suggestions above.

I have checked with the domain and they said.....

we can also confirm that all our Shared Linux hosting packages come with the PHP version 5.3, which can't be increased (unless you purchase a VPS package).

......so, is the problem with them. if so why did it work with the earlier version.

I'm still puzzling over this, Brian.  One thing I'd like to pick up on though...  your host maintains that your Shared Linux package comes with PHP 5.3  -  however, that contradicts the results from your email test which you reproduced in your second post (5.2.14)

This could be significant.  PHP is not without its bugs.  It may be that there has been a change in the X5 scripts between v9 and v10 which require newer versions of PHP on the server in order to work correctly.  No doubt Claudio will advise us...

In the meantime you could ask your host to ensure that your PHP is upgraded to a more current version.  You can often do this yourself via your host Control Panel.

I'm running PHP 5.3.19 on my own server with no issues.  However, that version was only released in late November 2012 as compared to your own current version, which dates to July 2010.

It's generally considered good practice to keep up to date with patches and new software releases, but probably especially so in this instance when faced with the type of problem you are experiencing.  Personally, it's what I'd try next.

Hello Brian,

In Version 10 the email scripts are the same present in Version 9.

Please try to test all 3 script types directly from your admin panel online so you can test which one works better on the hosting service and check also if the email of the owner has not received them, but they were moved in the spam folder. Try with different email accounts to see if it's depending on the email service that blocks them.

Please keep me updated.
