Program crashes or close  en

Hello,

1. When I click Preview and click X to close the browser, I frequently get a pop up saying: "Incomedia WX5 has stopped working. Close program".

After I close the program and reopen it, and when I try to reopen the same project, I get another pop up saying: "The specified project is in use or has not been closed correctly. Do you want to continue?" Even after opening and closing the project a few times, I still get this 2nd message.

This goes away only after 4 - 5 reopening of different projects. Even if restarting the WX5, the 2nd message still pops up. Only by restarting my computer will it go away.

I am using Window 7 Professional, 6 core intel 3930 if this info helps.

2. On an existing project, I went back to template selection and chose Custom. I clicked Edit, made some modifications, renamed it and clicked OK. I went on then to Edit Graphic Template. When clicking Preview, problem #1 reoccurred again. Please explain what is causing this.

Thanks,

Sam

Same thing

no problems with preview pane in previous versions...

since updating to 10 crashes much too regularly for comfort, always when you want to close the preview pane. Click on "X" and bam! "Incomedia WX5 has stopped working. Close program"

then you have no choice but to close down, reload programme and ... "The specified project is in use or has not been closed correctly. Do you want to continue?"...well of course but 10 mins later it can crash again.

thought memory may be saturated so rebout computer and it carries on doing it

must emphasise it didn't do that in the previous versions on the same computer (does it on my other computer too...

this one is Quad core

the other dual core ...........all with 4 Go or more of ram...don't have crashed with photo shop and other heavy loads so it is a programme issue...

thanks

John

Hello Sam and John,

I would suggest to uninstall the .NET Framework 4.0 on the computer and then to use following cleanup tool to remove the remaining files:

http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Blog_Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

Once done the .NET Framework 4.0 needs to be reinstalled and it can be downloaded from following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718

Please keep me updated.

Claudio,

After I have posted this problem, I found a previous thread from a few months ago.  The same complaints, the same suggestions (about reinstalling .Net Framework).  They all said they did it and it has not worked.

The desktop I am using is brandnew.  Windows 7 Prof, 16GB Ram, Intel i7 3930 6 core.  This was purchased from a custom builder so there are no junk loaded.  The programs installed are WX5 evol v10, Corel Draw X6 and other Corel programs.  I only have a handful of projects in creation as I am trying to learn your products and theirs.

I continually update Windows whenever I am notified of any of their updates. And on the updates I see .NET Framework being one of the regular updates.

I also have WX5 installed on an Acer laptop.  The laptop is almost 2 years old.  Windows 7 home, intel i5-480M, 4GB.  I also have these programs mentioned above installed.  I mainly use this laptop on the Ubuntu side for a custom program.  So Windows is seldom used until I purchased WX5 evol v10.  I do the same Windows update on this laptop.

Is it still necessary for me to uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework being that it is brand new?  Wondering how this would cause your program to crash on a regular basis since Windows update is always current and programs are newly installed.  Also wondering how uninstall and reinstall would be different from Windows that is current in its update.

Also, since I am not only learning your product but also also learning how to build a website, I probably use Preview more often than the experienced users.  Everytime I make a change, addition, deletion I click Preview.  And the program crashes about 85% of the time.

Your last responses on the other thread, you said to see your answers in  http://answers.websitex5.com/post/66802 and
http://answers.websitex5.com/post/68451 But they are set as private.  Also the responses of those who posted there all pretty much say the same - it did not work.

I hope this info helps.

Do you have any other solutions?

Thanks,

Sam

Hello Sam,

I realise you are awaiting a reply from Claudio in person and I don't wish to interfere with that.

But just wanted to say that my own personal experience has led me to reduce the 'Max number of simultaneous processes' in the 'Preferences' screen  -  I feel the default value of '10' in a fresh install is possibly a little optimistic.  Depending on project size (of course) WebSite X5 can become rather resource hungry.

I have no data to back this up.  It is just a genuine, personal observation, having worked with WebSite X5 (and version 10) an awful lot.

Hope you find it helpful.

Paul

Paul,

Thanks for your reply.  I read this suggestion too in the other thread.

However, one of the reasons for purchasing a desktop that is i7 - 3930, 64-bit, 6 core, hyperthreading capabilities  was to use it for CAD and rendering.

But so far, I have not had this problem with my laptop and Simutaneous Preference is also set at 10.

Interested to find out what is causing this crash and why.  Is it certain steps done or not done that causes this?  Or something else?

Sam

Hello Sam,

the cases which brings the program to crash are on every computer different and in the most cases it depends on a corrupt part of the .NET Framework used by the program.

Also if the computer is new but there are other programs installed which uses the .NET Framework, it can be that these changed the behaviour of it, which can cause the crashes. As first we suggest to uninstall and reinstall them since this can help as first to exclude one of the major causes, and mostly this helps. The post you mentioned where related to the project itself where was added something that was not compatible like custom code.

Did you try to uninstall the Frameworks?

In this way we can find the solution since we can exclude what is bringing the program to behave this way.

Many thanks!
