Problem With Special Characters  en

Author: Ruud Roefs-Wijnen

I just updated to 1748.

In my website I use a few special characters as † and ë or ö. In preview everything looks okay. But after uploading I got some strange codes. In the normal text the ë and ö look okay. But the † is shown as â€. The ë and ö are showed wrong in a link to a picture with a showbox. In the showbox it says ë for ë and ö for ö. Can someone tell me how I can solve this problem?

In preview I do not have that problem. And I now see that some characters are read in another way since this last update. For example the " character. I have to delete the old one, type a new one and upload it again, and look there, it is showed correctly. But unfortunately this does not work with the † character and the ë and ö in the showbox. On other paces in the website the ë and ö is correct. So this can not be a problem with my browser or webspace.

Before the update it was okay. And now it isn't anymore.

Does anyone know what to do?

Good morning,

are you still having problems? Did you update to the last 9.0.4.1748 version? How did you add the text? What object did you use? Please add all the details you can!
Thank you!

The problem appeared after I updated to 1748.

In my website I use a few special characters and symbols as † and ë or ö. In preview everything looks okay. And in my already uploaded testwebsite everything looked okay. But then I updated to 1748... In preview everything looks fine. But after uploading some changes I got some strange codes. In the normal text (made in a textbox) the ë and ö look fine. But the † is shown as â€. And when I put a link on text or picture to a picture with a showbox the ë and ö are showed as Ã« for ë and ö for ö.
And some characters are read in another way since this last update. For example the " character. Suddenly strange codes appeared. Not in preview, but after uploading. I tried to delete the old one, type a new one and upload it again, and see there, it is showed correctly. But unfortunately this does not work with the † character and the ë and ö in the showbox. On other places in the website the ë and ö is correct.
So the † is shown wrong everywhere. The ë and ö are shown correctly in the text, but not as a text added to a picture in a showbox.

Hope this explains it enough.

It's perfect, thank you!

Please delete the website online, reload the entire project again (not only what has been changed) and please let me know if it is fixed.

Hi Samantha.

I deleted the complete website and uploaded everything again. But this does not make any difference. The problem is still there.

. . . but you *freed* the cache of browsers?

I also changed server standard to UTF-8 (same as browsers) and no more problems . . .

For the "cross" sign I used the same font as the rest of the text Tahoma 11.

Regarding to the ë. Yes it is showed correctly in the text you added to your post. But when you click on "Beste Baby van de Show", then you get a picture in a showbox with some text added to it. In this text the ë is not showed correctly. It says België 2008, which should be België 2008.

In the meantime I uploaded my final websitewww.fawltyandjones.com. I deleted the test-site. But, my problem with the special characters is still not solved!

I had to put a jpg-image instead of the † . And instead of ë I had to put only the e without the " with the pictures. For example "Belgie" instead of "België".

Maybe you already found the solution for this?
