Linking documents

I have evolution 10 and have a problem linking documents. Pdf's seem to work ok but I cannot get word documents to link? I am overdue in updating a site so any help please?

Why not convert the word documents to PDF then you link it. Because if you link a word documents and the user does not have office installed he/she wont be able to open it. So preferably use PDF

There is just a lot of them and some are claims forms for the person to fill in and return that they cannot do with pdf

If I select a word document then go to preview view and activate the link it navigates to my folder on my hard drive. If I do the same with a Pdf it opens the pdf file.

The desktop window which appears is to select where to save the word file since these cannot be displayed in the browser but needs to be saved or opened with Word.
