X5 (version 9) Hangs Creating Project Files
Author: David F.I can see my web-sites in the open project page but when I try to open them, I sometimes get a warning they were incorrectly closed and X5 hangs showing the "Creating Project files" message. The only way out is to terminate the program with Task Manager.
I have followed other posts and tried deleted all the files (after making a safe copy elsewhere) in the
"F:\ALL **** DOCUMENTS\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v9 - Evolution\Live Site"
folder except the "Backup.iwprj" file (319kB), renamed that to "Project.iwprj" with no change.
I'm Running Windows 7, 64 bit ultimate with 16GB ram and a Phenom X6 11 processor.
Could the program be stuck looking for files which have been removed by an over zelous cleanup program? If so can I find out which files?
Alternativly do you have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Hello David,
What files did you delete?
IF you have still all files try only to rename the backup.iwprj in project.iwprj so it can find the other files which are necessary for the project.
Try also to uninstall and then reinstall the program.
Please keep me updated.

Thanks Claudio.
I have replaced all the files (from the copy I made before deleting).
I have deleted project.iwprj and renamed backup.iwprj to project.iwprj.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled X5 (from a fresh download from your site).
Alas no change. When I try to open the file I get a warning that the file is in use of incorrectly shut down and when I continue there is the usual "Initialising" message which changes quite quickly to "Creating Project Files". At this point the program hangs.
I have inspected the disk part of resource monitor and there is no disk activity from the PID associated with "WebsiteX5.exe *32 (which is using 120K of memory).
I have a copy of the actual website and can of course download the live site but I can't get into X5 to edit it.
Any more ideas please?
Regards
David

Solved My Own Problem!
For the benefit of others with the same problem.
I had turned offMicrosoft Net Framework 3.5, (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\turn Windows features on or off), because it was causing problems with a totally unconnected program. I had not uninstalled it.
Turning it back on, and rebooting has restored X5 to its normal state.
I suspect (What do you think Claudio?) that X5 saw Net 3.5 installed so didn't either install it or complain about its absence, but because it was turned off X5 hung.
Thanks for your help Claudio
Best regards
David
Hello David,
It can be since the systems shows the presence of the files but the Framework is only deactivated.
Many thanks!
