Blog Folders  en

blog;

I have created a blog for my website 58oncron.co.nz. The server has a public folder created; http://58oncron.co.nz/public/ when i use the blog in the preview it works fine allowing comments & voting etc; but online this does not happen.

I can access www.58oncron.co.nz/admin I get the following:

"Server public folder path (http://58oncron.co.nz/public/)FAIL Ask your Web Space Provider for the path of the read/write folder. This folder must have its permissions set as 777"

My question is do I, have to create a sub folder, within the public folder and change the file path to something like http://58oncron.co.nz/public/blog and give the read/write permissions to the blog folder any advice would be appreciated

You set the name of the folder in step 5 blog / comments tab.

This folder needs the chmod 777 permission.

you can use a ftp program for this (like filezilla)

You can use any folder you want. I usally upload first then the folder will be created. after that i set the permission.

I found a great answer to the question on this site: http://www.websitebabble.com/uploading-files-ftp/1667-what-chmod-777-a.html

To chmod a file on your host from windows:

Open your site in the ftp program
Right click on the file on your site you want to chmod
Select properties
Enter 777

chmod sets permissions for a file eg: read, write, execute for the owner (you) and guests (any one who views the file...this includes programs). 777 means anyone can do anything with the file.

Paul if it still does not work, it is the map / directory that probably has no CHMOD 777 rights.

Did you set this already? Did you applied it to the correct folder?

You can also login as admin (read your admin login and paswword in step 4 acces management.)

your admin panel is:  http://58oncron.co.nz/admin

you can use a test button to see where there still are problems.

If it does not work let me know if you succeeded into making your blog map CHMOD 777 rights. And why it still does not work. (maybe make a prtscrn)

Hi guys

thanks for the help with this, I have tried everything suggested but it is still not working. my hosting server has asked which PHP version x5 professional 10 reccomends they have version 5.2 on the server.

I have attached a copy of the error message I get when I test, in the 58oncron.co.nz/admin area

thanks again Paul

it works perfectly fine with 5.2 and as you see in you own image, php version 5.2 is green and marked as pass.

red ones are the ones you set them and I can see you have the whole thing wrong.

did you upload your website inside "public_html" folder or not?

Thanks Anthony A

No, I did not upload the website into the public_html folder. I uploaded it as I normally do; into my httpdocs folder that contains the public folder. with the address http://58oncron.co.nz/public/ and permissions set at 777.

should I be uploading the website into that folder ?

Hello Paul,

As folder in step 4 data managementadd only public/ and then upload it again and test it. The error comes because you added the url of the website and the program is looking for a folder with this name.

Many thanks!

Hi Anthony A. and Claudio D.

Anthony; I delteted everything from the server httpdocs folder; then uploaded the whole website into the public folder the web site did not show when I entered 58oncron.co.nz; till I entered 58oncron.co.nz/public/58oncron.co.nz.

so it appears the answer was not correct (sorry) but worth a try.

Claudio thanks for your help I have altered things in the data management as suggested ; but that does not appear to have worked either. I have attached a pdf with screen shots to see if you can see where I'm going wrong. otherwise I will redo the website from scratch and see if that helps.

thank you both for your time and efforts

Paul

Hi everyone,

and thanks for all the help, it appears Andre E was correct, as soon as I changed the permissions on the httpdocs directory; everything worked. so the public folder and the directory have to have their permisions set to 777.

Thanks to all and I do hope others find this information useful.

Regards Paul
