Do I have to delete my old website first?  en

I am trying to upload my new website created in websitex5. My site is hosted by a2hosting. When I upload the new files, I can see that they are in the public_html folder in cPanel, but the front end of my website still shows the old content. Do I have to delete the old content first? Am I uploading to the wrong folder? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Sharp Management,

No, you don't necessarily have to delete your old website files first, as WebSite X5 will overwrite any older files (with the same names) when performing an upload.  Having said that, it is good housekeeping to delete redundant files from the server periodically...  but this is probably not the cause of your problem.

More than likely you are viewing an older copy of your website which exists in your browser cache.

You can either clear your browser cache using the tools in your browser menu, or alternatively hold down the 'CTRL' key whilst pressing 'F5' to reload any page which does not appear to display as you think it should.  This will force your browser to load the web page data afresh.

We can check how your site looks (and post a screenshot) if you care to share the website address...  this will also rule out the possibility that you might have uploaded the new files into the wrong folder on your server.

Let us know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Paul

I've tried using a different web browser, and even a different computer but it does not show the new version. The attachment is what it currently looks like. The address is sharphoa.com

Thank you for your help with this!

This is very strange...  when I visit that URL in my own web browser I see a completely different web page to yours (please see my own screenshot attached)

However, the website I see does not appear to have been built with WebSite X5?

Have you recently made any changes to your web hosting, or purchased webspace on a different server?  I think this may be a DNS issue...  I think you might need to point the sharphoa.com domain to the server where you have uploaded your WebSite X5 files.

At the moment sharphoa.com is hosted by Affinity Internet...  does that seem correct to you?  Is that the same host that you use?

The fact that your own computers cannot see the same web page as in my screenshot would strengthen the argument for some sort of DNS caching or misconfiguration.

My apologies, it is late here in the UK and tiredness must be kicking in!  I have just re-read the thread and noticed that you have already stated that you host with a2 hosting.

Therefore this is definitely a DNS issue.

Please log on to the control panel where your 'sharphoa.com' domain name is registered, and set the DNS to point towards your new a2 web server.

Once this is done you should be able to see your new WebSite X5 site within approx. 24-48 hours, maybe sooner.

At the moment the current nameservers for your domain are:

NS1.BDM.MICROSOFTONLINE.COM

NS2.BDM.MICROSOFTONLINE.COM

However, they should be something like:

NS1.A2HOSTING.COM

...as per this article:

You have been extremely helpful so thank you so much, Paul!

I have changed my nameservers and I hope that solves it.
