Position of search box

Is it possible to position the search box other than in the header section of the template? I would like to have it in the menu bar.

You can put it in the body of your web page(s) by following these instructions:

There is one post that I managed to find which implies that it is possible to put a search box in the menu using custom code:

However, it is an old thread and I have not tested the method.

Thanks Paul,
I got it to work OK on the page - but that unbalances the page I want - and I am not up to the procedure to get it into the menu bar - and that doesn't seem to be perfect - so I have left it in the header.
But thanks again for your really speedy and helpful answer.
