Leverage browser caching  en

In the Google pagespeed test I am told I need to Leverage Browser Caching, and it looks like it's listing the paths to many photos that I have loaded in a slide show on the home page. The speed ranked 51/100 for mobile and 63/100 for desktop.  I have tried to read solutions in this forum, plus online, about how to fix this, but am unable to comprehend. The reason I have so many photos in a slide show is because we're an art gallery, so it spotlights several pieces of art (maybe 30) -- too many? The mobile-friendly passed at 99% The user-experience was 99/100, Back to the speed, I "passed" 6 of their rules. Is there something I can do to pass this speed portion of the test?

Hello Charlene,

The setting you need to adjust is one on the server: this is not something you can influence from within WebSite X5.

If you ask your webhost they will advise you how to switch on browser caching for your particular server and configuration.

Activating browser caching will improve (reduce) page load times, but only for repeat visits to your site.

You may find that you are able to improve the speed of your site further by ensuring that all your photos are optimised to be as small as possible (not in terms of physical size, but rather file size).  For example, you could use utilities like the following:

https://tinypng.com/

https://tinyjpg.com/

Kind regards,

Paul

Thanks Paul and Andre.  Andre, do you think I should just let it be status quo for a while? i would like to send an ad to my customers about being mobile friendl, and just deciding if I need to fine tune anything.

I would, you can always act if you get complains, and also test yourself on different pc's.

And as Paul mentioned making the pictures ideal in size helps also. My hosting has a higer priced offer as well with better servers, but where does it end ? A customer has also a connection no matter how fast your are.... So my suggestion is try it out for a while then you can always decide to improve.

I have compressed many of my photos. Do I need to "re-link" them or will they be picked up when I do my next export to the internet (using the option to only export items that changed since the last export)?

You need to remake the links, Charlene, as technically the images are now completely different files.
