I have just done a Windows update, not by choice.
Website X5 was running at the time, when the PC restarted, and i restarted Website X5, all my project files are missing from the project selection window.
I have not done a backup in the last few hours, but had done many previews!
What can i do?
Thanks

Hello.Go to "C:\My documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Professional". Perhaps your projects are there.
Please note that your "My Documents" folder may be in a different place. Find it. Also, perhaps, you changed the settings of the program and saved the project elsewhere. Look for it there.
Sometimes when updating the operating system, a copy of the user folder is created on the system disk. Look for it in "C:\Users\Your username".

Hello Aleksej,
When i look in the "C:\My documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 - Professional", i can see files that seem to relate to the project, and the last preview time. I can also see a file called Project.IWPRJ2.
But i don't know how to try to get any of these files back into the program, i can't see any files with the extension .IWZIP.
Thanks

Is there a help file that explains the file types and how to recover a saved (previewed) project?
I really need to get these projects back, one of them urgently.
Thanks
Hello P.S.,
The most recent guide from Incomedia is this one:
How can I restore a backup project file in WebSite X5 Evolution?
The article is a little dated but the principles and procedures are essentially the same in the newer versions of WebSite X5.
Then there is the relevant section of the current help file:
https://help.websitex5.com/en/v2019.2/pro/index.html?backup_ht.htm
I also recommend that you read through the following threads, in particular heeding Gordon's (Esahc) advice:
https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/es/post/211445
https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/es/post/207793
https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/es/post/197340
Do you not have a fairly recent IWZIP file? If so you might find it easier (and faster) to simply import the IWZIP file into WebSite X5 and redo only the most recent changes that you made whilst the computer was on and automatically restarted, etc.
Good luck!

Thankyou Paul,
I renamed the file .iwprj2 to .iwzip. I then tried to import the project from this file and got the same error as in post 211445 above.
I tried renaming the fonts, library, and metadata files, this made no difference.
I do have a project folder with lots of files and folders, but:
Does this mean the file is corrupt? I can do nothing now to get it back?
Thanks
Gordon is an expert in these things... I'll defer to his expertise on this matter. He'll probably be along shortly.
I'll also mark this thread for Incomedia's attention.
Do you not have a fairly recent IWZIP you could import?

Solved!
The problem was nothing to do with loosing files.
When Windows shut down the program during an update, i then restarted the program the project location was changed to another folder, so no projects displayed.
Changed the location back to the correct folder, all projhects back - that simple!
Thanks
Brilliant, glad to hear it! Thanks for letting us all know
P.S I am sorry I was not around in your hour of need, but I am very pleased your projects are back.
I am writing this in the hope you revisit this post. Above you stated that you renamed the iwprj2 file as iwzip and attempted to import the project. This will never work.
Please go to step 5, export project and this will create an iwzip file (you can even rename it at the time if you wish). This iwzip is a complete backup with all source files. It can be copied or saved anywhere and it can be imported into wx5 on any PC. This is a true backup. It is the ONLY way to guarantee you cannot loose your project/s (assuming you store it somewhere other than your PC (eg store on USB or external drive).
Please do not rely on the inbuilt Backup/Redo, and please do not trust Microsoft (I have had 6 PC's "bricked" with total loss of drive partition by Windows Update this year).
