Control Preview always causes not responding message

Whenever I do a control+preview as is recommended in so many posts on here, what happens for me is that there is a few seconds of delay, where the cursor changes into an hourglass (wait) symbol, and the X5 program window has the (not responding) message and the close window x at the top right turns red.
See attached file
Then after a while the preview window will open up, blank, and then a while later it shows the page.
There doesn't seem to be a problem, but is the "not responding" supposed to happen?

Hello. I think that such a situation may appear due to an overload of the computer while clearing the site cache. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus, firewall, and other protections. Take a look in the task manager what exactly is most loaded during cleaning (processor, memory, disk). This way you can better understand what exactly is causing the delay. Perhaps you are running some kind of program while cleaning. And this program consumes a lot of resources. This can also be seen in the task manager.
@Adrian try disable "save on every preview"

Thank you. I am running parallels on a mac - so it gets partial resources assigned to windows. I will try upping the # of cores and memory and see if that helps.
Save at every preview is disabled.
Thank you for the responses.

Max resources, no change
Adrian, I have used WX5 in an emulator and it can be painful, but if the website is largish, CRTL+preview will often result in an interim "not responding" advise as the whole website is regenerated.
Generally ctrl+preview should not be required unless the expected results are not visible in preview (frequently a change that can affect all pages my not be reflected when changing pages). The other reason to avoid ctrl+preview is that it will result in the whole website being uploaded even if only new and changed are selected for upload.
"I am running parallels on a mac - so it gets partial resources assigned to windows" - think this might be the reason.Try a Windows computer.
