Hello Mary Ann, Does your pc stay on or is it switched of frome time to time, else start pc again from scratch, try to open as less other programs, set firewall / virusscanner to off and try again. (maybe these got an update and interfere with x5?)
If it still does nit work try a reinstall from x5.

Mary Ann, I assume you cannot upload your site to the web, please note that I too have experienced this problem https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/es/post/253094
Question: can you export the project to iwzip (step 5 export project)?
Assuming defender is the issue and you are running Win10 or later, you say you cannot disable it?
If you are running ANY 3rd party a/v, malware, vpn. firewall please temporarily uninstall them then locate windows security and double click to open.
And then turn off microsoft defender firewall for each before restarting PC
Mary Ann, in spite of my above post I have just noted you are potentially still using V10 of WX5. If this is the case the "problem" may be your ISP. The FTP used in V10 is not compatible with the requirements of many current hosting platforms. They may be able to modify requirements to allow your uploads. You should contact your host.
It is imperative you create at least one iwzip file of your project (this may be required if you choose to upgrade WX5) and you should also be aware that if you export the website to disk (also in step 5) you can then use filezilla or similar to continue to upload your website.
PS if using V8 there is no option to create an iwzip and there is no direct upgrade path to later versions (sorry - just re-read all your posts)
