Connection error cannot complete the operation ftp_(getcurrentdirectory)  en

On the program website X5 evolution 9, I get this message: connection error cannot complete the operation FTP_(getcurrentdirectory).  It never used to do this before, but all of a sudden it is happening.  I phoned the server and they couldn't help.  Perhaps somebody has come across this problem and had it solved.

Thanks,

Walter

Hello Walter,
if Use passive FTP is enabled, could you please turn it off and check if the situation is the same?
If you try to connect to your server through external tools if available, such as FileZilla, is the connection successful?
I remain available.

If I turn off passive FTP, it stays a long time in Retrieving Timezones... and then I get a time-out exceeded message

**********************************************************8

I can also use the server's port to upload files, however, I don't know where files go.

If I go into the folder of the project I want to upload, I see two folders, one called “Preview' and one called “Upload.” Plus, there are four other files.

The “Preview” folder has directory folders (admin, captcha, files... etc.) plus 10 other files.

The “Upload” folder has a “pcss” folder and a “res” folder, plus 10 other files.  Both the “pcss” and “res” folders in the “Upload” folder have files in them.

SO....

What do I upload and where?

Do I upload from the “Preview” folder all the directory files to the directory files on my server? Do I upload the two folders (“pcss” and “res”) in the “Upload” folder?  If so where?  I don't know what to do.

My server has allowed a folder called “Public” that I can upload to.  In the “Public” folder, there are just folders of the directory (admin, captcha, files... etc.)  That is it, that is all I see.

Please help me figure this out.

Thanks.

If you wish to upload your website via filezilla of similar (this may be necessary because v9 is so old it may not support current ftp protocols used by your host) you should use step 5, export website. Create a folder on your PC and export your website to it, this folder will then contain everything that should be uploaded to your hosting.

The default folder on a linux hosting service is public_html

In my X5 program, I have a folder that has the files of my website.

However, it has 2 main folders called “Preview” and “Upload.”  The “Preview” folder has folders that I see on my server (e.g., adm., captcha, files, etc.)

Do I upload all that is in my “Preview” folder to the same named folders on the server?

What do I do with the folder called “Upload”?

Thanks.

Walter, follow Daniel's instructions. Ignore preview and upload folders (they are for use by WX5). You must create a folder, export to it and then upload everything in that folder to your hosting.

So if I create a new folder, I have to take the files from my Preview folder.  Otherwise, I don't see where I would get the files from.

Thanks again.

All files and directories in this folder are uploaded to the web server in the public_html directory - what's so difficult to understand about that?

Hi Walter,

Create a folder on your desktop (or anywhere that you can easily find). You can call it "website upload files" or again, whatever you like.

Open the project in Website X5 v9 and choose the option (Step 5 in my version) "Export Website". This may ask you where you want to export the files to, or it may already have a default location selected. Choose the folder you created previously, not the default one. Website X5 will then export all the project files into this folder and they are the ones that you upload using FileZilla.

Don't try to use files that are already created like in the Preview or Upload folders that X5 creates. Use the new ones that it creates in the folder you made already - "website upload files". Hope this helps clarify the process. I haven't used Version 9 for years, so am not 100% sure if it is still Step 5 to Export the Website.

One other question.

I uploaded the files to PUBLIC, however, nothing has changed on my website.

Do I need to delete the files and folders that were already there and then upload the new files?

Thanks

Hello Walter,
assuming you have not drastically changed the website, and the pages have the same name as before, the new upload should have overwritten the previous instances of the pages' files.
If you have noticed no differences, it may either be that you are still seeing a cached version of the website, stored in your browser's memory, or that something went wrong with the upload.
If you can provide the URL and point out some elements that should now be present with the current version, we can check if we do see these updates.

I've added a screenshot from Filezilla.

On the top left is the website called "Count Vlad Website" with the files to be transferred.

On the top right is a no-name folder with the public folder in it.  When I transfer the "Count Vlad Website" folder to the public folder, the Count Vlad website folder just appears in the row of other folders that are in the public folder.

Nothing changed on my website.  I then deleted my "Count Vlad website" folder from the series of folders in the public folder.

My address is  http://countvlad.ca/

Thanks

Incidentally, the unnamed folder on the top right side does not say "public_html."  It's just unnamed, with a series of folders in it that include the public folder.

In FileZilla, select all files and directories in the bottom left area and then start the upload.
