Problem with Previewing PDF files after V10 Upgrade

When using the Preview function to check links to PDF files on my websites after today's upgrade to V10, clicking the links to the PDF files within the Preview window crashed X5, every single time, whatever the PDF. Each crash also left a messy WebsiteX5 process in the background. I just had to terminate six of them.

I was using a test website directly exported from V9, where Preview of PDF files worked perfectly. The files are identical.

Fortunately for me, I think I have the solution, at least for me locally. I understand you have moved from using IE as the basis of the Preview browser to Chromium. The problem seemed to be related to my Chrome PDF plugin - when I disabled the native Chrome plugin and installed Adobe Reader XI, this solved the problem with X5 V10 Preview of PDF files. This took me an hour to sort out, and I'm more savvy than many X5 users.

I suggest you need to modify the V10 installation so that this important PDF Preview function works correctly out of the box. At the very least, you could engineer the Preview to give an error message that users need to upgrade their PDF plugin, with a link to how to do it. To have the programme crash messily with no indication of the problem is not just beta software, it is worse. It is commercial suicide to release expensive upgrades that "break" crucial functions of software.

However I do still like X5 and I am looking forward to using V10. I just hope I don't find any more unpleasant surprises.

Hello Geoffrey,

Please check if there are any updates for your installed Adobe Acrobat Reader and install them. After you have updated it, the preview of PDF files will work correctly.

Many thanks!
