A problem has arisen; the uploading to the net has stopped working. The changes in my site come up in the preview, bur when I exported it to the net there are no changes on line. It goes through the exporting as before and finishes. To all appearances it has uploaded! Then on line the changes are not there. I’ve have cleared my browser’s history and cookies. Ernest

Hi Ernest,

You need to clear your browser cache as opposed to the history and cookies.

Alternatively, hold Shift or Ctrl whilst loading the page, depending on your browser.

Also, be aware that Google Chrome has cache issues at the moment.  If you're using Chrome then I suggest viewing your site in an alternative browser such as Internet Explorer 10.

Yes as I said I cleared the history and cookies. had to use Chrome and run it in webx5 v10 to get the videos to play. Now can I change the browser and still have my videos playing?

Browser history is not the same thing as browser cache.  The history stores a list of visited sites, whilst the cache stores copies of webpages viewed.

If you haven't cleared the cache, then you should do so before trying anything else.

You need to do this in your main standalone browser, as opposed to the Chromium preview browser built-in to X5.

OK now I have cleared the cache,  uploaded my changes again and again no change in the internet site!

All things seem to be working as far as the webx5 software is concerned, in that I can edit it to my heart’s content.  Preview show all the changes.  The ‘File Transfer’ runs smoothly so as to suggest the transfer  was complete, but when I open it on the Net no changes are made!

I’ve checked  the Host, Username, Password, Port.  All are right.

The Specific change I have made and are not uploaded, are changes to the ‘Home Page’ and a new file named ‘Testimony’

Could it be a problem with “one.com”?

Hello Ernest,

The problem is not with One.com, neither is it a cache issue.  Having revisited your site with the new information you gave in your last post I can now see that you have somehow managed to create two subtly different home pages, as below:

http://www.christianissues.co.uk/index.php

http://www.christianissues.co.uk/index.html

The html version shows the newly created 'My Testimony' page in the menu  -  the php version does not.

You need to delete one of these pages, and then ensure that all Home page links point to the remaining index page.

I suggest retaining the index.html file  -  do you really want an email form on the Home page?  (the email form needs the .php extension)

Rest assured that the problem is not to do with X5, your host, or your FTP settings...

Hope this helps you track it down.

Regards,

Paul

YES THAT'S IT PAUL, MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

I am at a loss to how that happened.

Ernest

I am just seeing certain words on my site for instance "bread" in a different colour to the other script.  When I clicked on it an add for Tescos came up.  How can I stop that?

Can you give a link to a webpage so we can see exactly what is happening here?

I feel pretty certain that this behaviour will be client side as opposed to server side: i.e. it won't be anything to do with X5, or something X5 has uploaded to your webspace.

It sounds more like the activity of a browser helper/add-on/virus/spyware/malware, etc.

It will probably be restricted to your own machine as a result of some piece of software or malware which has been unintentionally installed.

A weblink/URL would help diagnose further...

open up my site and go into "contact" and at the bottom you will see the word "nutrition" in light blue underlined.  Others I have tried to change by changing the wording of the file then uploading. www.christianissues.co.uk/contact

Your site appears to be down at the moment, Ernest?  I've just tried to access it and got a 404 error  -  same thing happened when I tried last night...

PS:  just realised it's the link in your post...

I can access your site OK on www.christianissues.co.uk/contact.html so all is well

OK, unfortunately you have definitely picked up an unwanted virus or piece of malware, which is distorting the view of webpages in your own browser.  The 'contact' page renders perfectly on my machine, with no altered formatting on the word 'nutrition'

I recommed running a virus scan and then doing a check for malware.  Malwarebytes is a great piece of software for finding and removing such problems, and in addition it's free:

NB: there is a paid version, but the free version works well.

Hi Paul,  I've tried this with no success. I've scanned and rescanned for malware.  I have edited some files changing the words that were used as links which seem to be a fix for a short time till the virus ?? malware ?? or whatever it is latches on to another appropiate word for an unauthorised link.

Now none of these links are seen in site preview only when its opened up on the Net.  I'm attaching a snap of two of these links found in the file named "The Normal Christian Life" namely the words "accounts" and "the church"

Regards Ernest

You will have to try and discover which particular piece of software is causing the issue, so that you can use that knowledge to implement the correct removal procedure.

I would start by trying different browsers...  if your page displays OK in one but not the other then you know the issue is confined to one particular browser.

Then take a close look at your browser 'add-ons' and 'helpers'  -  these are small pieces of software which attach themselves to your browser, supposedly to improve the user experience in some way.  However, the reality is that many of them are installed almost 'in the background' without the user being aware, often bundled as part of another piece of freeware or shareware.

Each browser has a different procedure for adding, removing, or disabling these 'add-ons'  -  you will need to refer to your browser help files, or let me know which browser is causing trouble and I shall try and point you in the right direction.

One other thing...  when you hover your mouse over the underlined text does a small pop-up window appear?  If so, can you post a screenshot?  It may help in tracking down the rogue software.

Thanks for the screenshot...  if you hover or click on the question mark at the bottom right-hand corner of the little pop-up ad, what information comes up?

From analysing the screenshot I suspect your machine has been infected with a variant of the Text Enhance virus.  Full details and information on how to remove here:

http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-text-enhance/

Pay particular attention to the list of 'add-ons, extensions and toolbars'  -  if you find any of the listed software attached to your own browser in some way then you should disable it and remove it.

Access to the extension list is different in every browser, but in Chrome, for example, it's via Tools - Extensions

In Internet Explorer these are the extensions (attachment)

In Chrome there are no extensions.

Still puzzled, as most of those extensions are showing as disabled anyway.  The ones from Montera Technologies and We Code Good would be better removed from your system in any event.

Is there anything below the Yahoo Toolbar entry?  I can't quite see the bottom of the screenshot.

Can you download and run this free adware cleaner?

Hi again Paul,

All the unauthorised links are gone.  What cured it? I'm not really sure! I wish I could give you a definite cure recipe.

Anyway thanks for the help

Ernest
