Moved from IE to Firefox a couple of months ago and sometime afterwards, started getting the X5 message unable to open default Internet browser when I selected.
My solution based on other Q&A on X5 tech support, open MENU and then OPTIONS on Firefox. Tab to ADVANCH and make sure the box "Always check if Firefox ....." is checked. It is at the bottom of the window under SYSTEM DEFAULTS.
Close Firefox (X5, etc) and then open IE. You should be asked to make IE your default. Click yes. Then close IE and open FF. It should ask you to if you want to make FF your default. Click yes.
X5 should now find FF as the browser.

The program uses the settings in windows and in case the deafult browser setting in windows is not correctly configured then the program cannot open it.
It is necessary always to verify the windows settings to be correct and then the program will be able to open the defualt browser you have set.
