Is it possible to limit the amount of rows on the product catalog?
Now I have 200+ items (2 per row, thus 100+ rows), and we would like about 20 items per page (with something like, next/previous page).

no, you need to create each page manualy and inside each page you need to check mark only 20 items to be shown.
for the page number and next/pre, you need to use custom code.

That's a shame.
So somebody with 1000 items has all the 1000 items on a single page...
