How do I get a border to appear around a menu item only when the mouse is hover over it?

We are considering buy Website X5, Evolution. I've downloaded the demo to test it. Aside from building some new sites, we need it to build mobile friendly, standards compliant copies of our current websites.

To do this we would need to have a black border, around a main menu item, on mouse hover, but no border when the mouse is not hovering.

I have been able to get borders on mouse hover, but I have been unable to get no border when not having the mouse hover.

I tried using the background colour of the menu (light blue, RGB, 191, 255, 255), but the border always shows up darker than the background, as if it's adding the border and the background colour.

Can you tell me how to get the black border around the main menu item, only when the mouse is hovering over it?

Thank you,

Jim M.

Jim,

For insurrance of visibility, the menu around has a standard gradient.

You could work around that but it will not work on a white background.

Set in TAB 3D style, the border outer width (for instance to 3) inner width to 0

Set in TAB menu items, In Menu Item pulldown the background colour 1 or 2 gradients darker -usally 2 depends a bit on the colour- then the border colour. (see that the menu in the example menu in x5 has no border anymore)

Now set the same colour as in menu items  background in pulldown menu Item on mouseover for the background colour.

I hope this helps.

If you want the option to be easyer or also for white you can always make a IDEA POST with the question to develop this in future updates.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, but something is still not working.

I'm not sure what you mean by "gradient." The border is a solid colour. Do you mean it is semi-transparent, or a different shade?

No problem. The background of the menu is light blue (RGB, 191, 255, 255).

No problem. I set this.

I couldn't get this to work. I tried various settings of colours, but the main menu always has a border around it that is visible around it, and the border is usually a shade of colour that I am not expecting.

Please see the attached screen capture file (the colours in the attached image, are the same that are showing up in the preview).

1. I have the background set to light blue, and the menu item has that same colour - good. But when I set the the Border Color to the same light blue, it comes out much darker, as you can see in the image - it would seem to me that this darker colour is wrong, it's not the colour specified in the Border Color box. Also, when I set the Current Page, Border Color to white, it comes out gray - this also seems like it is wrong. I am confused as to what this is doing. Perhaps if you could explain how this works, I can guess the colours I need (it would be a bit crude, but at least it would be workable).

2. From your instructions, I tried setting the Background Color darker, and setting the Border Color to the same darker colour, and in different combinations, but I was unable to get it to make the border the same colour as the background. I am also not sure what you mean by "1 or 2 gradients darker" - so I just guessed. Could you specify a formula to tell me how to convert my RGB values to the values that would produce the same border colour?

Sorry for the detailed question. I have tried many, many ways but I can't get it to work.

Thank you,
Jim M.

Hello Jim,

The border once enabled will be always visible on the every menu button.

As alternative you can create a background image for the the on mouse over where you add the border directly as image and for the normal button you use the settings in the program without using any border.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio,

Thank you for the work around.

Is there any chance this wrong colour bug could get fixed fairly soon?

It's not very useful as it is. The border colour just doesn't show up as the colour selected in the Border Color drop down menu. Even with a white background and transparent buttons, the border colour is still wrong.

Thank you,
Jim M.

Hello Jim,

I already informed the developers. They will check the issue and, in case, fix it in the future updates. You will receive a notification of a new update in the opening screen of WebSite X5 and you can see the changes made in the updates on websitex5.com/changelog/v11 .

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio,

> I already informed the developers.

Great, thank you.

We will check websitex5.com/changelog/v11 before we make our final decision on which software we are going with. It will probably be another week or two before we finish testing the other programs.

Thank you,
Jim M.
