Displaying data from a MySQL database  en

I can see how to get data into a MySql database but is it possible (without using a unique script) to display data from a (the same) MySql database?

I am trying to design a Web site that will diplay data from a database as well as allow data to be added to the database.

Hello Trevor,

Yes, there is an optional Object available for that very purpose, an add-on if you like:

You will need some 'credits' (Incomedia's virtual currency) to purchase it.

You can check your credits balance and purchase more if necessary, here:

Good luck with your new data-driven website!

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Your answer prompted me to check my version 11 - sure enough I purchased the database viewer sometime before and it is accessed through a "Manage" icon on the Page Creation window.

However, the Manage Icon does not appear on my version 12 of the software I have just purchased.

Any idea what is going on there?

Kind regards,

Trevor

I cautiously suggest that it could be a similar issue to the one which prevented licensed templates showing in v12:

https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/post/128781

That was fixed this morning, and I'm sure if there is a bug in Objects Management in v12 then it also will be rectified just shortly.

However, before jumping to a conclusion in that sense could you please try using the 'Update' icon in the Objects Management screen to ascertain whether or not that resolves the matter?  I've attached a screenshot to illustrate.

Please keep us informed...  thanks Trevor...

Paul,

"Update" did indeed cure the illusive "Manage" button. Ta!

Do you happen to know if there are any help articles to guide the use of the Dynamic Content Oblect and the Database Viewer? I am fine setting up and connecting to MySQL databases at my ISP. It is the configuration on WebSite X5 I am a little unclear on.

Thank you for your help

kind regards,

TREVOR

You'll find instructions for the Dynamic Content Object, here:

http://help.websitex5.com/en/v12/pro/index.html?ogg_dinamico.htm

Alternatively, just press the F1 key whilst in WebSite X5 and working on the Dynamic Content Object...  WebSite X5 will always offer context-related help in this way.

The Database Viewer is a different kettle of fish...  I'm not aware of any official help file.  It's not an Object I've used much myself as I read and write to my databases using custom code in the HTML Code Object, etc.

However, if having experimented with it you find you're hitting a brick wall then do feel free to come back and ask for input.  We're all here to help each other out and I know there are a lot of really knowledgeable users in this community.

So don't be afraid to ask

All the best,

Paul
