Version 12 Template Confusion (Pre-Sale Question)  en

I am trying to decide whether or not to buy V12.  With regard to website responsiveness, I am reading under the "what's new" tab on Incomedia home page.

Under the "Template Management" feature, it states "The graphic template has different characteristics on desktops and smartphones. You can work on both in all your projects and customize them as you wish."

Then it states "If you start from a default template, remember that they are all optimized to be responsive."

So, does this mean that if you select to use a custom template, you will have to design separate templates for both a desktop and smartphone, but if you choose to customize a Default template, you will not have to design 2 or more templates because default templates adjust themselves?

Am I understanding this correctly?  Thanks for any help.

Hello Lorien,

I understand the point you make: it is unfortunate if the wording on the Incomedia page has caused some confusion.

Basically, no matter whether you choose to work with a default or custom template, you still need to customise the header, footer and menu for the mobile viewports in each case.  In other words there is the same amount of work to be done.

Both default and custom templates can form the basis of responsive websites in version 12.  If you choose to design a non-responsive site then the procedure is virtually the same as in version 11.  However, if you switch on the responsive features then (for optimum results) you should customise the 'Responsive Template Structure':

http://help.websitex5.com/en/v12/evo/index.html?responsive_template.htm

The site will still be responsive even if you don't do this, but it will look better if you do!  Once again, no matter whether you choose default or custom templates, the process is the same.

Hope this makes things a little clearer, but if not please don't hesitate to ask further questions.

Kind regards,

Paul

Thank you kindly, Paul, for the clarification.  I guess it's probably worth the effort to design responsively.  :)
