I've been shopping for a CMS that works for me for a long time. I think WebsiteX5 is the answer I'm looking for. I don't mind using a desktop application, I've looked at a few others. But I'm wondering if it is possible to install WebsiteX5 on my hosting server and use it with a remote desktop connection?

Any information would be helpful in my decision making process, thanks in advance.

Hi S M.

It should definitely not be a problem.

The software works the same way on any pc, so as long as it is fully functional, it should be no problem to use it with a remote desktop connection.

Hope I've been helpful

I can just upload it to my server and point the browser to the folder address I put it in? I'll test it with the demo version and see what happens.

Not sure this is what was supposed to happen:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /TEST/TEST/WEB X5/ on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

So maybe if I knew what permissions to give what files, this could work?

There seems to be a little confusion here. First you mentioned using "remote desktop connection" which will work as Stefano said, but then you say you point the browser to the folder address and receive error 404, this is a different matter.

You can use WSX5 via a remote desktop connection but you can't run it via a web session using a web browser.

With remote desktop you use WSX5, on your server, to create a website as you would on a local machine. Then you would use the web browser to view the finished/published website you have created.

I hope this helps

Well, its probably me that's confused, lol. I'm not the greatest at this stuff. What I'm trying to find out is if it is possible to use WSX5 on my own server much like I would Joomla, Drupal or WordPress.

I take it that's not the way it works, but I'm not sure the real difference between this and remote desktop. That's probably why the confusion. Is there any documentation available on using WSX5 in this manner?

Hi SM,

WSX5 does not work as like Joomla, Drupal or WordPress, even though you can insert some CMS in projects created by WSX5 it will need to be published to your servers localhost directory for viewing as a webpage.

I beleive that you can use remote desktop to access and use WSX5. Once you have finished creating/editing your site it is a matter of exporting the website to disk and enter the server's  web hosting directory depending on the type of server you are using.

One thing, I hope that this is your own server as not many Hosting companies will permit you full access to run application of their server.<!--?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" ?-->

Thank you Barry,

That helps to clear up my understnding. For my persoanl desire to keep things simple, I've concluded it is best for me to simply run WSX5 as a desktop application. And that's fine, I had just hoped maybe to eliminate the FTP steps when ever I updated the site. But it appears less simple to work around that than to work with it.
