Hello Gaynes,

WebSite X5 will overwrite existing files if the ones which you are uploading are newer/updated.  However, it will not delete any existing files (on the server) which are no longer in use in your project.

You can use the 'delete' button in the directory listing screen in Step 5 to delete individual files or folders on your server.  Alternatively you can delete all files and folders from your WebSite X5 root directory on your server, then reupload all your project files afresh using the option in Step 5.  Either method will keep the server clean and purged of redundant files.

Kind regards,

Paul

As for example the version 12 adds files and folders that are present on the server and unfortunately some files you'd better delete manually is not overwritten :( follow what Paul wrote, then export your site again.

Hi again, I started using filezilla and it overights files if they exist in our httpdocs but not removing files that are already on server some how we seem to have duplicates in a subfolder which i think its also being index by google and displaying website.

So 2 questions I have here

1. If i was to delete httpdocs from server, and then upload again from software would that just make website the way it was as i think the duplicating isnt helping.

2. I was going to create a robot meta tag but the pages in project no longer exist, its only on the server where the pages are so the meta tag wouldnt work would it as where would i place it?

What you suggest needs to be done to remove searches from internet?

thansk

tony

Hello Tony,

In answer to your questions...

Gaynes S.
1. If i was to delete httpdocs from server, and then upload again from software would that just make website the way it was as i think the duplicating isnt helping.

Personally I wouldn't delete the actual folder as you would only have to recreate it again and set the correct permissions, etc.  -  your server configuration might not allow you to delete it anyway.  I would delete the contents though, but you must take care that you don't accidentally delete any configuration files such as .htaccess files...  your webhost will be able to guide and advise you in that regard.

2. I was going to create a robot meta tag but the pages in project no longer exist, its only on the server where the pages are so the meta tag wouldnt work would it as where would i place it?

I know what you mean, but as an alternative to a meta tag you could simply add any files or folders which you want to exclude from search engines by adding them directly to the robots.txt file on the server.  If you don't yet have a robots.txt file then you can easily create one:

http://www.robotstxt.org/

However, even this step is redundant and unnecessary if you simply purge the server of old files as per your first question, then go to Google Search Console and update your sitemap.xml (https://support.google.com/sites/answer/100283?hl=en), then request deletion of pages no longer in use from Google's index:
