Website Glitches & Slow Upload Issue
Auteur : James T.Hi there,
I've had a website online for years using the Website X5 Evolution 9 software that I puchased a while back. Using it on my old PC I never had any significant issues with uploading the website to the internet via FTP and it would do so rapidly.
Recently I got a new PC with Windows 10, and installed the Evolution 9 software on the new computer and imported the previously exported website file to my new computer. Imported all fine and everything is normal within the software. But when I upload the website to the internet via FTP on my new computer, it can take hours to upload and most of the files have errors, which means I have to upload the site multiple times to ensure everything goes up.
And now, when the website finally uploads, the pages (the few that actually upload at all) are full of errors with text spread all around the place, missing images etc. See for yourself at www.auscomedykingdom.com
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the lengthy upload and glitchy website, and how it can be fixed?
Cheers,
James
James, are you using a standalone ftp client?
If not I recommend filezilla - simply export your site to disk (you choose the directory). Your first upload will copy ALL files, but after that you should only be uploading modified pages and this should see the speed return to normal.
Are you getting good speeds from your new PC when browsing the web?
Last time I had an issue like this, I created a temp directory under public_html and loaded my site in there, turns out I had some issue in the public_html directory caused by files that had been there forever. Once I proved it worked in the temp directory I deleted almost everything in public and uploaded.

Thanks for your response! I've just been uploading via FTP within the Website X5 Evolution 9 program. If I was to now upload via something like Filezilla, would I need to delete the full website and upload fresh?
In regards to the speeds, everything else I do on the net with my computer is normal, the uploading via FTP is the only slow thing. It might go quicker through a different client.
Try filezilla, no you don't have to delete the existing site, but the first time everything will be overwritten, subsequently select update only newer.

Am in the progress of uploading the initial full website via Filezilla at the moment and already it's going a lot quicker.
Question regarding future uploads. Where do I select "update only newer", is that within Filezilla or WX5 EV9?
James, if using filezilla, highlight all the files (ctrl A) right click, upload and a box will open. Select Overwrite, and apply to current queue only.
If using WX5 it should be automatic, but it appears there are some issues with FTP in your copy of WX5
