Publishing over existing site  en

Just built my first site in X5 v13 and looking at publishing to my existing domain which was built in web builder provided by server provider.

www.allancameron.com

My question is, is there anything I have to do before publishing x5 site to my domain to replace old site? Or will it overwrite and replace without dramas?

thanks

Allan

It should overwrite and replace without drama.  The only time I have had a problem was when the old site had index.html and the new one was index.php - I simply had to remove the file index.html.

The only reason I would attempt to remove the existing site is if your host has very limited space allocated for your website.

The default settings should replace files with the same name with the newer version.

Thank you for that. So uploaded new site it's not replacing old, is that showing the need to delete old index.html. Sorry if being over cautious.

Allan, assuming you used the built in FTP transfer, the files should have written over your old site.

Before checking, refresh your browser using the refresh button or CTRL F5 (you may be looking at a cached copy).  If that doesn't work, are you sure you copied the site to the public_html folder? You can add the destination folder on the website export to internet page.

If you are using an alternative ftp program (I use filezilla - it's free) you could simply go and look to see if the new files are there in the public_html folder, they should all have newer dates.  If there are 2 index files, simply delete or rename the old one.

And yes there was an old index.php. All worked perfectly after deleting. Can't thank you enough for the help and new site is Live.
