Canonical tag for SEO
Auteur : Martin W.Hi all,
Been playing with X5 since version 9 but only for fun mostly.
Have recently done a website for a friend and actually uploaded it, so YAY! lol
I am currently trying to optimize the SEO for the site and though I've successfully worked out most of it for myself (what a learning curve) I'm struggling with a couple of things and was hoping someone may help.
Only going to do one thing here might do others as I get to them but for now working down the list of warnings/errors I'm getting from SEO Quake.
Canonical Tag
<link rel=”canonical” href=”https://www.somesite.co.uk” />
I placed this in the properties, expert section in varying forms (i.e. https, http, with & without www & yet I am still getting no canonical tag set
Any suggestions/pointers?
Thanks in advance
I don't have the site so it's a bit difficult, did you place the code in the head section? Do you need it for a page? Normally you don't set it for the website. But Again a webadress would be more helpfull here.
But normal use would be http://somesite.co.uk
Also don't be very alarmed by SEO tests, if you run 10, you get 10 different options.....
So try to get rit of most of the items they note but all is usual a dificult job.

actual site is http://blazingdesirelimo.co.uk sorry for not putting it in before, didn't think it'd be necessary with the example given but hey ho am trying to learn lol
And yes, I'm not alarmed by the SEO test I know getting it spot on will be nigh on impossible and don't expect to, actually quite pleased with how the SEO is anyway its just me I'm wanting to learn a bit more about it and had never heard of the canonical tag until this lol
I just want to play with the different items so I know how to whether they make any difference or not is kinda irrelevant I just want to know how if that makes any sense.
I tried http://blazingdesirelimo.co.uk in the expert section on 2 pages, main index page and the manchester page, mainly because my understanding (limited admittedly) was the tag is to stop repetitive pages having an affect, well the manchester page is duplicated a number of times for different areas with only the area name changed so it seemed to me I should make use of the canonical tag for that, as for on main page well it was my first page and for testing I placed it there with out success obviously lol
Anyway thanks for the help but again had no affect, so any more suggestions?
So you should set it on the manchester page:
<link rel=”canonical” href=”" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://blazingdesirelimo.co.uk/manchester.html"/>
inside the head tag.
step3 -? select manchester page , then press properties button -> expert -> after opening HEAD

OK so I've done that, thank you very much for the help. One last thing, should I add to all the area pages other than just manchester?
If manchester is the original then this is the only one you need to do.

I thought so just wanted to be sure thank you very much! Oh and bye and bye canonical tag is in the code, viewed source and yet is still not being detected by the SEO quake.
So like you said I suppose SEO tools are not that reliable and you just have to do what you can & trust its right/working.
